Obituary For Ivor Carl Carlson
Ivor Carl Carlson, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Vancouver Island, BC, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2020, in Grande Prairie, at the age of 83 years.
Ivor was born in Athabasca, AB, on August 6, 1937. He spent the first part of his life on Vancouver Island. He graduated in 1955 in Nanaimo, BC. Ivor met Ione (his wife of 59 years) in 1960, and they married in 1961. Ivor and the family settled in Grande Prairie in 1985, with years spent in Cranbrook, Calgary, and Dawson Creek along the way.
Ivor had many different careers, but the most enjoyable was owning and operating his own business, “Ivor’s Pilot Car Service” before retiring.
He was social, well-read, and informed. He had a great memory for details and trivia and was very sharp, witty, sarcastic, and a big jokester – he always had a response and witty one-liners. Ivor was articulate and wise, and a lousy singer, but he thought differently. He was an avid sports fan, especially hockey and golf. He loved watching sports of all kinds, and more than anything else, watching any of his grandchildren participating in their hobbies, sports and interests.
Ivor will be sadly missed by his wife Ione Catherine Alexandria Carlson; children: Vickie Lynn (Terry) Webb, Kellie Lynn Carlson, Carrie Lynn (Doug) Stromberg, and Derek Elwood Ivor (Toby) Carlson; grandchildren: Cody Cowan, Zachary Cowan, Courtney Webb, McCall Webb, Cassidy Stromberg, Cade Stromberg, Camryn Stromberg, Jack Carlson, and Elle Carlson.
He was predeceased by his brother Oscar Taylor in 2016; granddaughter Courtney Webb in 2019; and his parents Mary and John Carlson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (#144, 5241 Calgary Trail NW., Calgary, AB, T6H 5G8), or to a charity of one’s choice.
