Obituary For Jack William Durrant
Jack Durrant of Grande Prairie, AB passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and all their love, in Grande Prairie, at the Grande Prairie Care Centre, on Monday, June 19, 2017, at the age of 76 years.
Jack was born on May 21, 1941 in Calgary AB, the first son of John A. and Patricia Durrant, where he was raised until the family moved to Grande Prairie in 1955. It was here where he continued his schooling until he returned to Calgary to complete his Carpentry apprenticeship 1960.
When he returned to Grande Prairie, he started working for D&B Construction and shortly thereafter, he met the love of his life, Charlene Head. Jack built their future house prior to being married in 1966, and there they lived happily and raised their three children: Dave, Rod, and Roxanne. This was the family gathering place until 2011.
In 1982, he started HWD Construction along with his business partners, where he remained until he retired in 2004. Once retired they began to live freely by travelling south for the winters. He was a true snow bird who loved to make new friends wherever he went. It is with them that he filled his days with card games, dancing, and touring the local sights. There was never a moment without laughter.
His family was always his pride and joy. He was actively involved in his children’s sports. As a coach for his son’s hockey teams and most importantly a supportive dad on the sidelines. He rarely missed a chance to watch a game, even when it came to his grandchildren.
Every chance they got, Jack and his family would be outdoors enjoying fishing and camping with continuous trips to Jasper, Two Lakes and the Wapiti. A passion which also continued with his grandchildren. Jack always looked on the bright side of life, could take a joke as good as he could give one, and always had a story to tell and a smile to give. His generous heart will be remembered by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Charlene; sons: Dave (Raelene) Durrant, and Rod (Teresa) Durrant; daughter Roxanne (Tony) Mizzaro; grandchildren: Ashlie Toope, Atayia Durrant, Talon Durrant, Matt Mizzaro, Maddy Mizzaro, Zack Durrant, and Sydney Durrant; and great-granddaughters Sophia and Abigail Toope.
He was predeceased by his brother Alec Durrant, sister in-law Carol Durrant, and mother and father Patricia and John A. Durrant.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at 2:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave. Tea and fellowship to follow at the Elks Hall (10806 106 St.).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to QEII Community Respiratory Service c/o Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation (10409 98 St., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 2E8).

I want you to know that I am sorry for your loss. I wish Charlene huge hugs and I'm thinking of her and her family. Jack always had a laugh to give and I will always remember the many fishing and camping trips our families spent together. The Durrants were my "city" family growing up. Many sleepovers were spent at their house and Jack either terrified me or made me laugh so hard. My thoughts and prayers are with you and I wish you peace.
