Obituary For James "Jim" Alexander Begg

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of James (Jim) Begg, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. Jim left us on Friday March 14th, 2025, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Born on November 23rd, 1946, in High Prairie AB, Jim was the son of Frances (Oliver) and Harry Begg. He grew up in many cities in Alberta as his family moved frequently due to his Father’s service in the RCMP. In 1972 Jim settled in Grande Prairie with his wife Marlene where they raised their children Don and Sherry.

During Jim's career as a surveyor, he took immense pride in his work, often remarking on his good fortune in finding a career he loved. His dedication and expertise earned him the respect of his peers and colleagues.

Jim's humor, generosity and kindness inspired countless people. He was the expert of the “dad joke” and loved to make people laugh. He could always find humor in every situation; his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched.

Jim will be deeply missed by his wife Marlene (Frey), son Don (Debbie), daughter Sherry, granddaughters, Enna, Mackenzie, Ashley, brother John (Colleen), nephews, Michael, Matt (Christy), Brad Quadvlieg, cousin and friend Joanne (Vern) Moore, as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jim was predeceased by his father Harry Begg, sister Judy Quadvlieg, mother Frances Begg, aunt Joan Little, son-in-law David Wharton, nephew Greg Quadvlieg, and many more loved ones.

In keeping with Jim's wishes there will be no memorial service. A private Celebration of Life lunch will be held at a later date. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the emergency and ICU staff at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation in Jim's memory.
