Obituary For James Patterson
James Ingles Patterson, resident of Grande Prairie, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2019, at Prairie Lakes Seniors Community, at the age of 85 years.
Jim was born in Grande Prairie on August 26,1934 to Miller and Olivia Patterson. He grew up in Hythe surrounded by his brothers Harley, Leonard, and Art, sister Carol and brother Jack. During his youth, Jim attended school in Hythe and eventually met and married Agnes Lowe in Beaverlodge on May 21,1955. After their marriage, they moved to Grimshaw, Pouce Coupe, Dawson Creek and eventually Grande Prairie where he resided until his passing.
Jim was a generous, passionate and loving family man. He was an avid supporter of, not only his children, but those who joined his children in their various activities. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in their events. Jim was heavily involved with the hockey scene in Grande Prairie, the wider Peace Region and Western Canada. Jim, along with several others, was instrumental in the creation and evolution of minor hockey in Grande Prairie. He was inducted into the Grande Prairie Legends of Hockey in 2006.
Jim, along with Arnie Kjemhus, moved their families from Dawson Creek to Grande Prairie to start one of the first Datsun dealers in Canada in 1969, creating GP Carland. In 1977, Jim sold his share of the business and moved into Real Estate, retiring in 2009, at 75 years old, from Royal LePage The Realty Group
He will be sadly missed by daughter Gail (Carmen) Haakstad; sons Rick (Susan) Patterson and Darin (JoAnn) Patterson; grandchildren: Daneil (Alex) Maude, Tory Haakstad, Durai (Brent) Schell, Jared Patterson (fiancée Katie MacDonald), Ryan Patterson and Brooke Patterson (Nelson Marques); great-grandchildren Trystin Bain and Jordyn Maude; sister Carol (Jerry Rude); brothers: Art (Remona) Patterson, Jack (Kathy) Patterson, and Donald (Wendy) Patterson; sisters in-law: Caty Patterson and Connie Patterson; as well as nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Agnes Patterson, parents Miller and Olivia Patterson, and siblings: Harley Patterson, Leonard Patterson and Aubrey Patterson.
A heartfelt thanks to all of the staff at Prairie Lake Seniors Community for the past eight years who have lovingly cared for both Mom and Dad. We are also grateful for the wonderful support we received from Melody Gaboury.

Hemmingway John and Lenore
We were so saddened to hear of Jim's passing. Although we had not seen each other for a few years we always talked so fondly of Jim and all his family. The fact is, John was telling us some of the times they had at GP Carland and their special Christmas and other celebrations they had, how wonderfully he was treated and always included us as they were very family orientated. John said that Jim was the best boss he ever had and we always felt so welcome in their home, too. Unknowingly, this conversation was taking place at the same time as Jim was being laid to rest. Jim and Agnes were such wonderful people and raised a loving family of three children (great babysitters too) and we will miss Jim (Agnes) so very much. They are together again . We want to send all of you our many thoughts and prayers and may you RIP Jim with your loving wife Agnes.

I am very sorry for the passing of Jim. Jim was always a huge supporter of minor hockey and it was my privilege as a young kid to have had him either managing, coaching or just being a fan of kids Hockey. I cannot remember a time when Jim was nothing but a great guy to kids, always friendly, always supportive never negative and often funny, humorous and at times hilarious! Jim understood kids all to well and at times even took part in some of our shenanigans! I will miss Jim tremendously, as Iâ??m sure the family will. My sincerest condolences to the Patterson family. He was a great man.

Dear GAIL, Carmen and Family, I am truly sorry for your loss. I remember your Father (and Mother ) well growing up. Would see him lots out and about town all my life. And on occasion at my parents businessâ??, Swan City Texaco and then ConCliff Motors. He was a wonderful man, always a â?? hello â??, not really knowing if he knew you or not but seemed like he did. My parents spoke well of him as well. Iâ??m sure Mom will see / read his Obituary in the Daily Herald Tribune, a source she continues to get and reads diligently. (Mom will be 88 yrs end of this month). I will be mentioning to her as well today yet or tomorrow. Iâ??m sad to say I wonâ??t be attending your Fathers Funeral as Iâ??m recovering from Knee Replacement surgery (2 weeks ago - Nov. 6th, 2019). Again, our Deepest Sympathy - LeAnne & Ian Reynaud

A friend, a mentor, and a man who earned my respect, Jim will be missed. While working at Canterra with Jim I saw the true measure of the man. Kind to others, supportive, and above all a family man. His face would light up whenever he spoke of Agnes. I crossed paths not too long ago and his smile said it all, still happy and enjoying life. Rest In Peace Jim
