Obituary For Jimmy Robert Horseman

Jimmy Robert Horseman, resident of Horse Lake First Nation, AB, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Beaverlodge, AB, at the age of 90 years young.

He was born on March 13, 1934, to Caroline Horseman and Narcisse Noskye in Hythe, AB. He resided in Horse Lake First Nation, AB, where he lived his whole life. During his time here on earth, he was the man of many trades and teachings. Jimmy Robert spent the majority of his life working as a guide in Pink Mountain for Lynn Ross, he also ran the Horse Lake cattle company, worked the coal mine in Grande Cache, was a logger, as well as breaking horses. In his latest years – he was a Traditional Elder for Horse Lake First Nation IRC. Throughout life, Jimmy was self-taught in a lot of things – such as ice fishing, hunting, guitar and the fiddle. Other interests included trapping, camping, going out quadding, riding on the side by side and snowmobiles. If there was one thing that he taught all of us was the value of truth and honesty. He always said “If you lie, you will have to tell another lie to cover that lie and eventually you will never know the truth”

Jimmy, known as Big Jim, was the type of person who had a sarcastic personality and was quick with his comebacks. He was always laughing and telling jokes to everyone around him. He was loving and kind. His heart was so incredibly huge that no matter what others told him about others, he would always give them a chance, regardless of what the others had said. Jim was quick to help others and he had a generous spirit- even if what he was giving was his last dollar.

Jimmy will be sadly missed by his children: Katherine (Mervin), Allan, Patsy (Colin) and Gail; grandchildren: Mercedes (David), Karianna, Serenity (Branden), Brennan, Aaliyah, Aqua, Ashton, Lannah, Zuri, King; great-granddaughters Elizabeth and Journee; as well as numerous other family members that include grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Caroline and Narcisse; siblings: Lottie Belcourt, Nellie Ferguson, Ernie Horseman, and more; his wife Vivian Wanihandi; son Bobby Horseman; and granddaughter Justice Kent.

The viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at 5:00 pm at the Lymburn Hall in Lymburn, AB.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Lymburn Hall. Interment will follow at the Horse Lake First Nation Cemetery in Horse Lake First Nation, AB. Luncheon to follow after the service and interment.
