Obituary For Joan Kathleen Scribner Campbell
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Kathleen Campbell on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the age of 84 years.
Joan was born in Nelson, BC and raised in nearby Salmo. She trained at St. Paul’s School of Nursing in Vancouver and graduated as a registered nurse (RN). Joan worked in hospitals in Ann Arbor, Michigan and Spokane, Washington, before settling in Grande Prairie in 1959. She studied nursing administration at the University of Saskatchewan and became the director of nursing at the Grande Prairie Hospital before retiring to become a full-time wife and mother.
Devoted to her family, she tirelessly drove her kids to ice rinks around the Peace Country at all hours of the day. She took great pleasure in cooking and baking for family and friends. She was an avid sports enthusiast who loved watching a variety of sports, especially curling and baseball. In her later years, Joan enjoyed a good game of cribbage and texting with family and friends. Joan was a kindhearted, loving, and devoted mother, wife and friend who will be greatly missed by those who knew her.
She is survived by her children: Rob (Val) Campbell, Sheilagh (Gerald) Barlage, and Bruce (Melanie) Campbell; and five grandchildren: Lauren, Rhys, Cole, Carsten, and Brysten.
Joan was predeceased by her husband of 52 years Rick Campbell; parents Margaret and Charles Scribner; and younger brothers Charles and Bill Scribner.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at 11:00am, at Christ Church Anglican in Grande Prairie (6610 Poplar Drive). A reception will be held at the church following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Joan may be directed to the Campbell Family Foundation c/o The Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta, No. 200, (11330 106 St., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 7X9).
