Obituary For Joan Mann Hopkins

Joan Hopkins passed away on Friday, March 13, 2020, at Prairie Lake Hospice in Grande Prairie, at the age of 81 years.

Joan was born February 3, 1939 in Brantford, ON. She was the youngest of 15 children born to Raymond and Elsie Mann. In 1958, she married the love of her life, Roy Hopkins. In the years to follow, they had four children. In 1971, Joan and Roy packed up their family and moved west to Alberta. They settled in the Grande Prairie area where Joan became part of many community activities. Joan loved baking, quilting and playing bingo, but most of all, she loved her family. Spending time with her 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren was her greatest pleasure in life.

Joan will be sadly missed by her children: Randy (Donna), Linda (Everett) Bulford, Lee (Dee), and Darryl (Jane); grandchildren: Megan, Marcus, and Miranda Hopkins, Chris (Megan), Quinton Bulford, Angela (Steve) Rosin, and Tyler Bulford, Amanda (Frank) Krizay, and Ryan (Breanne) Hopkins, and Nicole (Ryon) Hemingson; great-grandchildren: Emerson and Royce Bulford, Tommy and Jack Rosin, Izabella and Malcolm Krizay, McKinley, Logan, and Lincoln Hopkins, and Kenedy and Pacen Hemingson; as well as many brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

A private family service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to 3D Children’s Society (7329 104 St., Grande Prairie, AB, T8W 2M7).

Dear Linda and all of the family , Mom and I were so sorry to hear of your loss . Mom ran into your Mom at Emerald Gardens and they had a nice little visit and Mom told me about it when she got home . So she was pretty shocked when I told her about your Mom's passing . Our heart's go out to all of you in your time of sorrow . I hope the memories you have help you through this sad time. Tammie Fontaine Effie Berg

Randy, Lee,Linda and Darryl, We were thinking of and praying for your Mother these last few months. She was a truly lovely, generous lady and will be missed by many. We appreciated her lovely smile and the kindness that she showed us when our paths occasionally crossed. We admired her beautiful quilts - Iâ??m sure her grandchildren will treasure the patient instruction she gave them and the wonderful memories they made with her. We wish you all peace and comfort during this difficult time. Love Carol Paul, James Stewart and Stephanie Stewart

Joan always extended such joy and generosity to others. Although she seemed blessed with luck beyond measure, she so generously gave it back through her countless hours of community service, school supports, baking, and quilting. Hopefully she and St. Patrick are now doing a jig, renewed in health and spirit. Her kindness will be deeply missed. Hugs to everyone, Michelle, Jacqueline, Jefferey, and Jessica Cornish

I am so sorry to hear of Joanâ??s passing. Joan was the EA for many children I worked with at Crystal Park. She was so kind and compassionate to those kids. She was also very thoughtful of us, the staff. She always made us feel like we had a shoulder to lean on. Your mom was funny and fun too. We shared many laughs. Iâ??m sure sheâ??s left a big hole in your family. I hope her passing was quick and that your memories of her will keep you comforted in these sad but also crazy times. Take care and hopefully our paths will cross soon.
