Obituary For Joanne Nilsson

Joanne Nilsson (nee Batt), resident of Grande Prairie, formerly of Corner Brook, NL, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2019, at the age of 57 years.

Joanne was born April 30, 1961 in Corner Brook, NL. She left Corner Brook after high school and moved to Alberta. A few years after that, she married Darcy in 1987. Shortly after that, they started a family. Though she was a stay-at-home mom, she spent the last ten years aiding and teaching children at a school.

Joanne was a fighter to the end and believed in equality for everybody. As executive director for the army cadets, she worked tirelessly to help make the program run smoothly.

She loved sewing, camping, and old classic movies. She enjoyed her coffee at the annual gopher shoot.

She will be sadly missed by her husband Darcy; children Tammy and Duane; brothers Byron (Dorothy), Cliff, and Russell (Candice); mother in-law Violet (Al); brothers in-law Vernon (Wendy), and Cam (Teresa); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nephews.

She was predeceased by her infant son Owen, parents Lizzy and Bud Batt, sister in-law Mia, and father in-law Glen.

As per Joanne’s request, no Funeral will be held, but a Celebration of Life will be held later this summer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Army Cadet League of Alberta (Box 4, Hylo, AB, T0A 1Z0).

Tammy and Duane, I was so sad to hear of your mumâ??s passing. She was one of the parents I have always thought so fondly of. Your mum was an amazing woman, full of joy, kindness and a willingness to help anyone she could in any way she could. Not sure if youâ??ll remember this Duane, but when I admired your scout poncho, she made me one as an end of year gift! I treasure and still wear the poncho every camping trip! I know first hand how hard it is to lose a parent. During this very sad time, I want you to remember how many people/ lives your mum touched- mine being one of them. She will never be forgotten! Sending my love and keeping you close in my thoughts and prayers. Love Lesley Krpan

Darcy. my sincere condolences on the passing of Joanne. She was an exceptional lady. In my time as president of the league, I knew I could always count on her to come thru, on any task she was assigned. In addition, I always enjoyed her "twisted" sense of humour. Take care old friend and may your memories comfort you in difficult times. Terry Martin
