Obituary For John Milkovich

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of John Milkovich of Rycroft AB, on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at the age of 90 years.

John Louis Milkovich was born on January 8, 1925 to Ivan Milkovich and Manda Pavelic, immigrants from Croatia. He was born on the family farm south of Rycroft, the second of 11 children to Ivan and Manda. Johnny started school at the age of 7, attending elementary school in Rycroft.

At the age of 9, Johnny had an accident leading to a lifetime of health issues. He underwent many surgeries as a young boy, accompanied by his father to Edmonton. However, that didn't stop Johnny from working and enjoying the good things in life.

He worked as a bus driver, gravel truck driver and farmed alongside his four brothers. Regardless of his health complications, he was as productive and meticulous as any of his brothers on the farm. Family, friends and neighbors were particularly important to Johnny, Christmas and birthdays, hunting and fishing trips, and a trip to Yukon and Alaska.

Later in life, his health conditions worsened with a bout of cancer and continued problems with his knees and eyes. Regardless, he always found time for family and friends and did his best to make sure everyone always was well taken care of. He reached quite a milestone on January 8 of this year, having reached the age of 90.

Johnny is survived by his brothers: Nick (Anne), Matt and Bill; sisters: Katie Hawrylenko, Annie Potrebenko, Matilda Milkovich, and Helen (Lyle) Boman; brother in-law Alex Potrebenko; as well as many nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by brothers: Louis and Joe; sister Mary Potrebenko; brothers in-law: Nick Hawrylenko and Walter Potrebenko and sister in-law Irene Milkovich.

The Funeral Service celebrating his life will be held Monday, September 21, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Rycroft Hall. Interment to follow at the Spirit River Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Rycroft Merry Pioneers Drop in Center (4717 50 St. Rycroft, AB, T0H 3A0).
