Obituary For John Morgan

It is with profound sadness that we, the family of Henry Morgan, resident of Sexsmith, AB, announce his passing at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at the age of 88 years.

Dad was born to Harry and Olive Morgan in Sexsmith on September 2, 1935. He was the second of two children. He began his education in the one room Morningview School House, which was situated just south of the present day Morningview Park Golf Course and completed his formal education at the Fairview Agricultural College.

From there, he began working in the agricultural industry for the United Grain Growers and the Alberta Wheat Pool, a career that would span some 40 years. It was while working at the grain elevator in Wembley that he met the love of his life Merna Ford. They were married in December of 1957, and would share their lives together for the next 65 years. After getting married, they moved to Woking, AB, where he managed an elevator Henry and Merna welcomed their three children, Harry, Sandy, and Allan into this world. Henry and Merna bought a farm southeast of Sexsmith in 1964, and sold it in 1978, and then moved into Sexsmith to their present-day home.

In 1978, Henry, along with his son, Harry, began planning on his father’s homestead (1914) the layout of Morningview Park Golf Course. Construction started in 1979, with the opening in 1984. Morningview Park proudly stayed a family operated business for the next 31 years until it was sold.

Dad will be sadly missed by his wife Merna; sister Elna Edsvik; son Harry (Mavis) Morgan and their children: Donald Morgan and Crystal Morgan (Chris); daughter Sandy (Steve) Baron, and their children: Lauren Baron (Hari), and Garrett Baron (Aly); son Allan (Dolores) Morgan, and their children: Jason, Cherie, Sean, and Jessica (Rob) Nooy; great-grandchildren: Austyn Hansen (Daphane), Evyn Hansen, and Penelope and Miles Nooy; nieces and nephews: Randy (Pat) Edsvik, Sherryl (Lorne) Woywitka, Aaron (Sue) Edsvik and Leon (Roberta) Edsvik; as well as many countless friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at 2:00 pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave).

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
