Obituary For John Robert "Bob" Bickell

It is with sadness that the family of John Robert “Bob” Bickell announce his passing on Sunday, August 23, 2020, at the age of 87 years.

Bob was born in DeBolt, AB on July 14, 1933. He grew up in DeBolt and Grande Prairie, where he started his career in the lumber business at the family mill. Bob married Gaylia Wetter in 1962 and they began their family. They lived in British Columbia for the majority of Bob’s career with Canfor, enjoying much of his vacation at their family cabin on Trembleur Lake. After retirement, Bob returned to Grande Prairie and married Jeannette Fletcher in 1994.

Bob loved the outdoors and enjoyed time with family and friends golfing, boating, skiing, quadding, and snowmobiling. He and Jeannette travelled the world on their many cruises and spent winters in Mesa, Arizona. Bob touched many lives and will be remembered for his strength, wit, sense of humour, and optimism, as well as the love and generosity he showed to family and friends.

Bob is survived by his wife Jeannette; children: Gary Bickell, Lynn (David) Feist, Don Strid, and Jill (Rob) Skuse; grandchildren: Michael Feist, Matthew (Ally) Feist, Shelby Skuse, Darby Skuse, Courtney Strid, and Stephanie (Chris) St. Halaire; great-grandchildren Haley and Oliver St. Halaire; and brothers Bill (Donna-Jean) Bickell, and Harvey Bickell.

He was predeceased by his wife Gaylia Bickell (nee Wetter), brothers Roy Bickell and Richard Bickell, sister Charlotte Anderson (nee Bickell), sisters in-law Noreen Bickell (nee Coogan) and Carol Bickell (nee Lewis), and step-daughter Susan Strid (nee Fletcher).

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
