Obituary For John Skanes
John Skanes Sr. longtime resident of Grande Cache, AB, passed away at home, on Monday, November 27, 2017, at the age of 81 years.
John was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on October, 5, 1936. He raised his family in Grande Cache, AB. He retired from Smoky River Coal Mine 20 years ago.
He is survived by his daughter Carolanne Petrie; sons John (Geneva) Skanes and Robert (Carol) Skanes; grandchildren: Keith, Dale, Jennifer, Shane, Ryan, Lori and Cordel; great-grandchildren: Isla, Emmett, Stella, Jack, Raedon, Presley, Jordis, Daxen, Zeke and Lenin; sister Gladys; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by his wife Ethel in 2010.
A Memorial Service for John will be held on Saturday, December, 2, 2017 at 1:00 pm, at Cornerstone Mountain Assembly in Grande Cache (11001 Leonard St.).
Memorial donations may be made to Grande Cache Health Complex (10200 Shand Ave., Grande Cache, AB, T0E 0Y0) or to Heart and Stroke of Alberta (144 5241 Calgary Trail NW, Edmonton, AB, T6H 5G8).
