John “Dutchy” Van Roestel, resident of Grande Prairie, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at the QEII Hospital, at the age of 83 years.

Dutchy was born in Holland on November 17, 1934. He moved to Lethbridge in 1962. He worked in the oilfield industry until his retirement.

Dutchy was a big joker. He loved children, he was helpful and generous, always put others before himself. He enjoyed a good game of cards.

Family and religion were very important to Dutchy, he was very close with Gladys’ family.

He is survived by his daughter April Crowshoe; grandchildren Odette, Jonathan and Ian (Raven); and great-grandchildren Oella, Ollie, Liam and AJ.

He was predeceased by his wife Gladys (January 24, 2018); and his children: Clark Van Roestel and Melvin.

A Viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at 10:00am, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Grande Prairie (10404 102 St).

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at 11:00am, St. Joseph Catholic Church. Cremation to follow.
