Obituary For Jonah Nicholas Armand Polachuk
Jonah Nicholas Armand Polachuck, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Friday, November 26, 2021, at the QEII Hospital, at the age of 20 years.
Jonah was born at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie, on Tuesday, December 19, 2000, at 7:00am, weighing 4lbs 7oz and 13” long. He was born early at 30 weeks, due to his mom having high blood pressure. He had to be a fighter since day one and left the same way with his mother by his side. As his mother, I remember just how beautiful and perfect he was and continued to be as he grew into be the kindhearted and loving man, any mother and father would be proud of, and we were. Jonah attended Crystal Park School from kindergarten to grade 8 where he learned how to swim and found a love for art. He then attended the Grande Prairie Composite High School where he made many great friends. Resse, Mathew and Maggie were his crew of buddies, just to name a few. He graduated grade 12 and happily did another year of high school. He loved school.
Jonah loved to laugh and play jokes on his family a lot. He loved playing with his little sisters and hanging out with them. His sisters loved to bug him and get Jonah to chase them around the house. Our house was always filled with their laughs. He enjoyed playing video games and his skills were to be fully admired, he was such an amazing big brother to his sisters. He was protective of his sisters, as they were of him. They were the 3 musketeers or, how his sister Teaquin would say, “Two blind mice and one eagle eye”. (His sisters wore glasses and the eye doctor told Jonah he had eagle eyes. He was proud of that and the girls, not so much). He and his sister Teaquin were 2 years apart and very close. They were thick as thieves and shared many long talks and shared secrets that their mother is just finding out about now. There were some funny ones.
Jonah had many hobbies. He enjoyed collecting cars, comic books (sonic was a favorite), and hanging out with friends. His biggest interest was his character or alter ego Zonah whom he made up. He has multiple drawings and artwork of him.
Jonah will be sadly missed by his mother Sarah; father Darcy; sisters Teaquin and Illianna; Baba Ruth and Geido Fred; Grandma Joanne; Gokom “Kokom” Susan; uncles Wesley and Mathew; biological father Tyler and family; as well as many cousins, aunts, uncle, and friends.
Jonah was predeceased by his Great-Baba Elsie Dedick; Great-Baba Rose Polachuk; Great-Geido Ivan “John” Dedick; Great-uncle Thomas Dedick; uncle Nathaniel Thunder; great-grandmother Helen Belcourt; great great-grandmother Bella Belcourt; Great great-grandfather Fredrick Belcourt; childhood friend Sam Gladue; as well as many other aunts, uncles and few cousins.
A Viewing will be held on Sunday, December 5, 2021, from 7:00-9:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave).
A private invite-only Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 6, 2021, at 1:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Grande Prairie Cemetery (84th Ave and 112th St.).
A Livestream of the service will be accessible 15 minutes prior to the service on Jonah’s obituary on Oliver’s Funeral Home website.

I taught Jonah art at the Composite High School and remember him well. He was a soft spoken young man with a gentle nature. He loved to draw, especially the character Zonah he invented , which you mentioned in his obituary. He will be very missed by his "crew" and family both. My sincere condolences. Laurel Rohne, art teacher Composite High School.

Hello Jonah, it's your older cousin Natalie the other day I was laying in bed with tears in my eyes as I watched one of the beautiful videos your mom made my heart was filled with sadness and regret that I have taken time for granted and I never got the chance to meet you, when suddenly my bedroom door opened as if a gust of wind had came through I stared at the door for a moment then my eyes gazed over to a Pikachu teddy bear I have that ironically had been wearing a headset.. it reminded of a picture I seen of you with your headphones on and I instantly smiled. Thank you for that ❤ rest In sweet peace cousin. I love you
