Obituary For Joseph Alphouse Andre Blanchard
Joseph Blanchard passed away on the morning of Tuesday, February 27, 2018, after a heroic battle with cancer, with immediate family by his side, at the age of 80 years.
He was born in Deleau, MB, on October 23, 1937. Second last of six kids, in a loving family with no shortage of company, food, and coffee.
Joseph finished school at 15, started work at a young age, and met his wife of 60 years. He carried on a long career of construction, bridge and roadwork throughout Alberta and the North West Territories. A master of many trades, he also ran a hardware store and a very successful catering business called Smokeys.
From an early age, Joe became an excellent curler, winning many bonspiels in and around Alberta and Manitoba. He played fastball with the Doug Lewis Bulldogs and even dabbled with thoroughbred horse racing. His true passion for the outdoors, hunting, trapping, and fishing, was lifelong. He was an avid sports fan of the Blue Jays.
His years of work on various endeavours taught everyone around him the important values of life.
Joseph is survived by his beloved wife Allison Blanchard; son Tim Blanchard and granddaughter Jordana Friesen; daughter Tracy Trebb and grandchildren Tanner and Gabrielle; daughter Andrea (Darren) Sander and grandchildren Adam, Kate, and Jack; special family Mary Jean Usunier and all brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles.
The family will be holding a “Come and Go” at the house (10105 85 Ave, Grande Prairie) on Saturday, March 3, 2018, between 12:00-8:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grande Prairie Cancer Centre (C/O Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation) (10409 98 St., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 2E8).

We spent many great times with Joe and family over the past 60 years. Fishing in the last number of years was always a great time no matter what the size of the fish was Joe always presented the catch as " Look Ive Caught Muley " Duck hunting was another classic event numbers were never important and a fine shot he was. Joe was known for his quick wit and one liners and he always had a system for the art of playing the craps table or placing the winning bet on the horses. Joe was a man that was always ready to help with any of Life's issues. Life wont be the same without Joe however we may all meet again in the future. Blake & Olga Gemmill & Family.

I am so sorry to hear of Joe's passing. I was not aware. He was an excellent co worker at EPEC many years ago and an even better boss. I never heard a cross word and was always easy to talk to and friendly. His quiet demeanor was always welcome and this world is less without his present. Take care and accept my condolences Rox
