Obituary For Joseph Fitchett

Joseph Andrew Fitchett passed away at 1 West Mackenzie Place, Grande Prairie, AB, on Friday, May 27, 2016, at the age of 91 years.

Joe was born in Consort, AB to William and Adele Fitchett.

Orphaned at age 11, Joe faced many challenges. He was always grateful for everything he had throughout his life and ready to lend a helping hand.

Joe settled north of Debolt, purchasing his farm in 1949. He met Florence Gaboury and they married on January 21, 1953. Joe and Florence farmed, raised their family, and were active members of the community. Joe was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Upon retirement from Canfor, travelling, golfing and woodworking became his passion. Joe was an avid crib player and was always ready to play. He will always be remembered for his smile, his chuckle and good natured personality.

Joe will be lovingly remembered by his children: Alvin (Laurie) Fitchett of Rocky Mountain House, AB and grandchildren: Becky (Ryan Baker) Fitchett and Amanda (Cody Pearce) Fitchett; Larry (Brenda Hickson) Fitchett of Fort St. John, BC and grandchildren: Tina (Doug) Yates, Tracy (Kevin) McNeill and Larissa Fitchett; Norine (Howard) Laverick of Bezanson, AB and grandchildren: Michael (Sheila) Laverick and Cory (Teri) Laverick; Darrell (Tina) Fitchett of Gull Lake, AB and grandson Tyler Fitchett; step-son Melvin Gaboury of Edmonton, AB; great-grandchildren: Jaxyn, Jordan, Austin, Alexis, Dallyn, Mason, Brandon, Josh, Cole, Tyson, Rylan, Kamryn and Mackenzie; sister Adele Fitchett of Grande Prairie, AB and brother Bill Fitchett of South Carolina, USA; brothers in-law Leonard Gaboury and Ignaces Makrocki of Grande Prairie; special friends Jean Millar of Grande Prairie and Marilyn Fitchett of Armstrong, BC.

Joe was predeceased by his wife Florence, parents William and Adele Fitchett, mother and father in-law Edmond and Delia Gaboury, in-laws Raymond and Lillian Gaboury, Don and Yvonne Mitchell, and Doris Makrocki.

Prayers will be held Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 7:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 1:00pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grande Prairie (10404 102 St.).

Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Alberta and NWT (Unit 102, 9823 116 Ave, Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 4B4)

    My thoughts are with you all at this time of such sorrow. Joe was always good to me, and he was a gentle,kind and loving Grandfather to my daughters Becky and Amanda. His genuine smile and unique laugh will always be a treasured memory I will hold forever. I know each and every family member will have their own special memory that will see you through the difficult days ahead. Remember the love when you remember the man. Rest in peace Dad. Bez.
