Obituary For Józef Panasiuk

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Józef Panasiuk, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, who was a resident of Grande Prairie, AB, on Monday, November 20, 2023, at the age of 91 years.

Józef was born November 28, 1931, in the Polish village of Koczukówka to parents Stefan and Katarzyna Panasiuk.

Józef lived through historical upheaval: WWII, occupation, and communism. The hardships of these times formed him. He was resilient, hard-working, innovative, a perpetual entrepreneur, adventurous, and a natural Stoic who accepted the world's ebb and flow with grace.

With only a few suitcases and dollars in his pocket, Józef immigrated to Canada with his wife and four children, hoping for a better life. His vegetable garden, fruit trees, honeybees, and lakes to fish gave him purpose, and the pleasure that being in nature and open spaces brought him.

Józef was a quiet, kind man who loved, sacrificed, and provided for his family, and will be especially missed by his wife Janina of 63 years; daughters: Teresa Sehgal, Elizabeth Panasiuk, and Donna Panasiuk (Daniel Doran); beloved grandchildren Lauren and Matthew Sehgal; as well as many dear relatives in Poland.

A Mass and Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 24, 2023, at 3:00pm at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grande Prairie, AB (10404 102 St).

John & I had the great pleasure of knowing Joe for over 40 years. We have enjoyed many special occasions over the years with Joe & his family. These included birthdays, anniversaries, thanksgivings & Christmas dinners. Joe loved hunting. John & Joe often talked about their hunting experiences when we would go to visit. Joe taught us how to make wonderful Polish sausage from wild goose meat. It was so delicious! John & Joe also enjoyed some good times out trout fishing at Swan Lake. John will miss his fishing partner as Joe knew just what to use to catch those fish. One time they went out however & forgot the net! I decided for the next time they went out fishing I would make a check list for them so they would not forget anything as it's hard to land your fish without a net! We have a photo of Joe holding that checklist & it's a photo we will treasure. Joe also loved his bees. Joe's honey was to die for. We still have one pail of "Joe's" honey left that we will savor it now more than ever. We will miss our friend Joe. We send our love to "Mom" (Janina), Donna my best friend, Teresa & Elizabeth who are family to us. We are thinking of all of you & send our love. Nancy & John

Such a wonderful man. He and my husband fished and hunted together for years. He was always generous with his honey which we enjoyed immensely. My Heartfelt condolences to his family🙏🙏
