Obituary For Justina Krahn Rempel

Justina Rempel (nee Krahn), longtime resident of Silver Valley and Spirit River, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 13, 2015 at the age of 77 years.

Justina was born in Rosthern, Saskatchewan on December 2, 1937. She grew up in the Mennonite community of Hague, Saskatchewan with her many siblings. In 1961, she met Bill (Wilhelm) Rempel and they courted through letters sent between Hague and Silver Valley, Alberta. Justina soon accepted Bill’s proposal of marriage and on July 23, 1961, they married. Silver Valley became her new home and it was there that they raised their four children.

Bill and Justina remained in Silver Valley until 1998 when they moved to the Rose Haven Manor in Spirit River. Bill passed away in 2000 and Justina took comfort from the many friends they had made in the Manor. She lived there until moving to the Lodge in 2014.

Justina’s family and friends will fondly remember her love of reading and music as well as her sweet tooth and her many scrapbooks she created long before it became popular. Her grandchildren will miss her gentle nature and her often competitive spirit when it came to a game of Chinese checkers or Krokinole.

Justina is survived by her children: Joyce (Neil), Norma (Dave) and Sam (Michelle); grandchildren: Justin (Angela), Vanessa (Brad), Mallory (Stephane), Sheldon, Jenna, Chase and Rebecca as well as her sister Susie Giesbrecht.

Justina is predeceased by her husband Bill (Wilhelm) Rempel and her son George Rempel.

Justina’s family would like to thank Evelyn Lewchuck for her devoted friendship while Justina was cared for at the Central Peace Hospital.

A graveside service for Justina was held at the Spirit River Cemetery on November 16, 2015.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to: the Central Peace Health Complex Palliative Care Unit (Box 339, Spirit River, AB, T0H 3G0) or the Spirit River & District Museum, (Box 221, Spirit River, AB, T0H 3G0).
