Obituary For Kenneth Anderson

With saddened hearts we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Kenneth (Ken) Anderson of Grande Prairie, AB on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at the age of 84 years.

Ken was born in Valleyview, AB on August 15, 1934. He grew up on a homestead just south of Valleyview. He met the love of his life in Edson and married Roma in 1958 and they moved to Peace River.

Ken hauled explosives, then worked in road construction. Susan was born and then Roger during this time. In 1963 they settled in Grande Prairie where Ken took a position with Alberta Public Works and a short time later Melvin was born, with Joyce to follow. In 1989 Ken retired due to illness.

Ken and Roma spent 9 years wintering in Arizona and made many great friends and memories during their retirement years.

Ken was a kind man and made time to talk to everyone. He was always there to help and lend a hand to whoever was in need. He had a great sense of humor and left a smile on our faces right until the very end.

His greatest joy was spending time with his family; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him happiness.

Ken had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, gardening and working on his gold claim. He has left us with many fond memories of him enjoying these hobbies. He was an artistic man with a talent for painting, carving and writing. His love of rock collecting will forever be carried on by his great-grandchildren.

Ken will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 61 years, Roma; children: Susan (Tony), Roger (Paul), Melvin (Buffie), and Joyce (Shawn); grandchildren: Shara (Bill), Taryn (Mat), Kenneth (Bryce), Tristen, Bryce, Alyssa (Jon), and Tianna (Josh); and his great-grandchildren: Jaxon, Cash, Cole, Carson, Taylor, Creighton, Emersyn, Sawyer, Myer and Konnor; his beloved dog Taz who he called “grandpa’s girl”; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Gunnar and Opal, siblings: Delores, Irene, Bernie and Astrid.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Bertozzi, Dr. Oosthuizen, Dr. van Tonder, and the staff at the Sexsmith Medical Clinic, the homecare nurses, the nurses in the ER and on 5 North at QEII Hospital. They are truly heroes.

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 1:00pm at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.). Interment to follow immediately after the service at the Grande Prairie Cemetery (84th Ave. and 112th St). Luncheon to follow at Oliver’s.

Memorial donations may be made to Heart and Stroke of Alberta (#144 5241 Calgary Trail NW, Edmonton, AB T6H 5G8).
