Obituary For Kenneth â??Kenâ?? Norman Edgar
Dad was born in Wembley, Alberta, on May 18, 1928, the youngest child of Norman and Violet Edgar. He grew up on the family farm and lived there all his life until his health deteriorated. In August 2019, Dad moved to Prairie Lake Seniors Home in Grande Prairie where he passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at the age of 91 years.
Dad attended school at Big Horn, Scenic Heights just two miles south of where he was raised. He later attended Grande Prairie High School. After high school, Dad helped his father on the farm and at the Co-op bulk station. Dad married Geraldine Olson/Volden on June 20, 1955 and they welcomed their first child, Lance in March, 1956. In May of 1958 their daughter Sharon was born, followed by their youngest daughter, Dawna in August 1959. Dad’s father passed away in 1958 and Dad officially took over the Bulk Station and ran it for the next several years and through the transition to United Farmers of Alberta. In 1975, Lance began working full time for his Dad and they later became partners in the La Glace UFA bulk fuel business until Dad retired in 1990. Dad was devoted to his family and to his community.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Gerri; children: Lance (Trudy) Edgar, Sharon Edgar-Drolet, and Dawna (Kurt) Robinson; eight grandchildren: Rob (Tomo) Robinson, Jeff (Jaycee) Edgar, Kimberly Robinson (Jason), Myles Edgar (Leah), Lowell (Brianne) Edgar, Keira Drolet (Darrell), Courtney (Dustin) Moodie, and Sarah (Mark) Rhyason; eight great-grandchildren, Kai Robinson, Lexi Drolet, Elle Edgar, Aya Robinson, Cam Edgar, Sully Edgar, Emi Robinson and Grace Edgar; sisters in-law Eunice Curtis (Dave) and Marlowe (Armand) Pelletier; brother in-law Hanley (Cindee) Volden; nieces Lynda McKeeman and Myra Murias; and nephews: Barry Edgar, Lloyd McKeeman, Jim Curtis, Shawn Gerow and Mike Gerow.
Dad was predeceased by his parents Norman and Violet Edgar; son in-law Mitch Drolet; brother Jim Edgar; sister Alberta McKeeman; sister in-law Sadie Edgar; brothers in-law Miron McKeeman and George Gerow; and nephews: Dale Edgar, Dennis McKeeman, Wray McKeeman and Bradley Curtis.
The family would like to extend our thanks to the staff at Prairie Lake Seniors Community for their attention to caring for Dad. We would especially like to thank Adele who took time with Dad to listen to a few farming stories. We are very grateful to Dr. Pope for the many years of care towards Dad.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, March 9, 2020, at 2:00pm, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grande Prairie (9929 105 Ave.).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the La Glace Arena Fund (Box 185, La Glace, AB, T0H 2J0).
