Obituary For Kenneth Murray
Kenneth Murray, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island, passed away unexpectedly at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital on Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at the age of 66.
Kenneth was born on November 18, 1952, in Fredericton, NB, to Eileen and Horatio Murray. He grew up in Doaktown, NB.
Growing up, Kenneth was involved in various sports as well as the Scouting movement where he achieved the Queen Scout designation. He became a Scout leader in Nova Scotia where his step-son Jarett became involved in Scouting. Kenneth graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Forest Engineering from the University of New Brunswick in 1975.
He began working in New Brunswick with Acadia Pulp and Paper in Nelson Miramichi, and later with J.D. Irving in locations throughout New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and PEI. During his time in Nova Scotia he met the love of his life, Shirley. They were married in 1993, and shared many adventures together. He cherished her children Daria and Jarett, and later their children: Kallum, Mykah, Vaila, and Austin. He had a special bond with Kallum who shared many of his interests.
Adventure called in 2005 and the family moved west to Grande Prairie where he got a chance to use his engineering degree with several companies road building and inspecting bridges. He was proud to be both a Registered Professional Forester and a Professional Engineer.
His career path changed direction and his last job was as manager for the Grande Prairie Disabled Transportation Society. He remained committed to his community after retirement and volunteered with the Rotary Club, serving meals at the Friendship Society and assisting with the Salvation Army Kettle Program.
His family will remember him for his incredible generosity, and his love of reading, history, and storytelling.
Ken will be dearly missed by his wife Shirley, her children: Daria (Cal) and Jarett (Brittany); Daria’s children Kallum and Mykah; Jarret’s children Austin and Vaila.
He was close to all his brothers and their families and leaves behind: Keith (Andrea), Donald (Angela), and Stuart (Lora-Lee); as well as nieces and nephews: Barbara, Brian (Gina), Heather (Ron), Laura (Ray), Carolyn (Alex), Craig (Kaitlin), Kelly and Hailey.
He was predeceased by his mother Eileen (2015), and his father Raysh (2019).
At Ken’s request there will be no service.
Memorial donations may be made to the Diabetes Association (104, 12220 Stony Plain Road, Edmonton, AB, T5N 3Y4), or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta (144 5241 Calgary Trail NW
Edmonton, AB, T6H 5G8), and would be greatly appreciated.

Seitz Phyllis
Although belated, Chuck and Phyllis Seitz send prayers to Shirley and family. Chuck, who works for DTS, always spoke highly of Ken as a good manager and peer. Phyllis always enjoyed visits by Ken and Shirley while doing demos at Fresons South (now closed). Ken had a certain perspicacity which garnered admiration by many who understood his gift. However, there will always be small-minded people who will never acknowledge such a talent.
