Obituary For Kenneth Nelson Hughes

Kenneth Nelson Hughes, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at the QEII Hospital at the age of 81 years.

Kenneth was born on March 8, 1940, in Saltcoats, SK. He met his wife in Edmonton, where he was driving a gravel truck. After a few years of working for someone, he went home wishing he had enough for his own truck. Eileen asked how much he needed, she then told him he had enough saved, Ken was in disbelief. From there, he started his entrepreneurial adventure. He went from driving gravel trucks, to pilot cars, to fixing and renting radios and tachometers, and then back to his pilot cars as Ken didn’t know the word retirement. Throughout all these adventures he met many people and had an amazing partner who stood by his side and supported him. He will be missed by many.

Ken was a ham radio operator. He loved his semi-trucks and was always fixing something.

Ken will be sadly missed by his wife Eileen Hughes; children: Darlene (Larry) Fritz, Rosalind Guthrie, Rocky Pelletier, Vincent (Diane) Pelletier, Nelson (Jenny) Hughes, and Shane Cotterhill; grandchildren: Miles (Tielle) Pelletier, Devin (Shannon) Pelletier, Brandy Pelletier, Melonie Guthrie, Neale (Natasha) Guthrie, Tammy Guthrie, Doreen (Jason) Guthrie, Kassey (Sheldon) Abell, Tara (Brad) Hoekstra, Tiffany (Steve) Grand, Melissa Cotterhill, and Nicole Hannes; great-grandchildren: Ashton, Tayin, Caleb, Jake, Ashley, Daylin, Megan, Allee, Carter, Adam, Danielle, Ethan, Brandon, Austin, Ellie, Morgan, Jesse, Kiran, Kaelan, Avery, and Mason; as well as his sister Roberta Worski.

Ken was predeceased by his mother Agnes, father Ernest, and son in-law Gordon Guthrie.

An invite only Graveside Service will be held on Monday, July 5, 2021, at Emerson Trail Cemetery.
