Obituary For Kenneth Wayne Kosowan
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend Kenneth Wayne Kosowan, resident of Spirit River, AB, who passed unexpectedly Monday, August 14, 2017, at the age of 72 years, surrounded by family.
Ken was the second child born to George and Olga Kosowan on June 30, 1945. He was raised in Spirit River and shared his life with three sisters: Doreen, Patricia, and Karen.
Ken attended school in Spirit River then completed his high school education at Alberta College in Edmonton, AB in 1963. He worked for the Department of Highways for three years until he joined his father in the hotel business in 1966. Ken then became the youngest licensed Assistant Hotel Manager in Alberta; in those days, one had to be twenty-one years of age to get an Assistant Manager License in Alberta. Later Ken became manager and still today he and his oldest son Brad own and operate Spirit River Hotel.
On May 17, 1968, Ken married Ann (Chascha). They were later blessed with three children: Brad, Brent and Terryl. Ken enjoyed spending time outdoors with his family. They spent as much time as possible at their summer cottage and taking fishing trips to the West Coast. Ken would never pass up the opportunity to go on a fishing trip. He also thoroughly enjoyed curling, golfing, hunting, berry picking and cooking. His latest past time was “crop inspecting” with good friends.
Ken was heavily involved in the community. He was an active member of the Kinsmen Club, Spirit River Council, Spirit River Rangers Hockey Club, and Ducks Unlimited. Ken was elected Director for the Alberta Hotel Association representing Northern Alberta.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 49 years Ann, children: Brad (Crystal Milkovich), Brent (Joleen Standish), and Terryl (Cory) Pfannmuller; grandchildren: Ceanna, Bree, Dane, Zoe, Ryenn and Tanner. He will also be greatly missed by his sisters Doreen (Earl Solli) and Karen Kosowan (Bob Maki), as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Ken was predeceased by his father George, mother Olga and sister Patricia.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 21, 2017, at 1:00pm at Rycroft Ag Center in Rycroft; viewing prior at 12:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Central Peace Health Complex Auxiliary Club (PO Box 339, Spirit River, AB, T0H 3G0).

It was my privilege to know Ken my entire life. He taught me to fish, hosted my younger birthday parties in the Hotel with Mike Hutzel and gave me some of the best summer jobs working at the lake ever; it was always more fun than work. He will be sadly missed. I know that Ken was a soft heart for everyone including our family and that you will be overwhelmed with love and support from many of the people that his life has touched but know that if there is anything that I can do to help please ask. I will keep you all in my prayers.
