Obituary For Laverne Gaboury
Laverne Gaboury, resident of Valleyview, AB, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020 in his home at Valleyview Health Centre Long-Term Care, at the age of 73 years.
Robert Laverne Gaboury was born on October 14, 1947 in Grande Prairie, AB. In 1949, the family moved to a homestead in Sunsethouse, AB where Laverne was raised. He attended school in Sunsethouse, Valleyview, and Fairview, AB where he graduated from high school at the top of his class. He started working road construction at the age of 17 and continued until he retired in 2005 at the age of 58, due to illness.
Laverne was strong, loyal, very friendly, had a great sense of humour, and was loved by everyone. Prior to becoming ill, he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his very well trained dogs, and the occasional shot of whiskey with his many friends. After retirement, when he could no longer enjoy his physical hobbies, he would still spend his days socializing with his friends and neighbours. Even in his final days, he was always up for a visit and he remained cheerful and enjoyed reminiscing. Many will tell you, if you couldn't visit him in person you could expect phone call from him regularly.
He will be sadly missed by his daughter Linda Alaimoana; son Randy Gaboury; grandchildren: Braden, Chyna-Rei, Faalii, Kaleb, and Jordan; brother Gerry; sister Linda; many nieces and nephews; and his in-laws whom he loved like family: Ralph (Peggy), Lorraine (Bud), Carol, Audrey, Richard (Theresa), and Gord (Heidi) .
Laverne was predeceased by his parents. Agnita and Irving, wife Alice; brothers: Lawrence, Peter, Harvey, Bill, and Walter; sister Lorraine; and brothers-in-law; Johnny and Edwin
A Memorial Service will be held in the summer of 2021.
The family sends many thanks to the nurses and caregivers at Long-Term Care for the exceptional care they provided to Laverne over the years.
Memorial donations may be made to Valleyview Health Centre Foundation – Long-Term Care (P.O. Box 358, Valleyview, AB, T0H 3N0).

Hubar Anne
I just want to let you know that Im thinking of you and your in my prayers. I always think of the time Laverne stopped in one night when Alvin and I were wallpapering the dining room. As you know everyone who drove by knew what was happening at our house and I guess Laverne thought Alvin might need moral support which he did because by the time he stopped Alvin and I were ready to kill each other. Needless to say it probably took twice as long and there was probably a whiskey bottle involved as well. He provided comic relief and the wall paper did get up. I loved that Laverne felt comfortable to stop in whenever or whatever time it was. Laverne was one of the few people that I afforded that privilege. And he was always able to make me see the funny side of things and he had the best stories.
