Obituary For Lawrence Gordon Canning

Lawrence Gordon Canning passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at the age of 79 years.

Larry was born February 14, 1940 in Grande Prairie, AB. He spent most of his life in the Peace Country.

He loved horses and passed this love onto his granddaughter Cassidy. Rosalie and Great-Grandpa shared a special bond and she was always able to make him smile, right up to the end.

He was known as the “Gadget Guy” and as a master of all trades. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He enjoyed building things and was always tinkering on his latest project. He enjoyed the outdoors and volunteered with many organizations including: PARDS, ski patrol, hot air balloon races, GP Winter Games, GP Little Theater, and judging horse jumping.

Larry will be sadly missed by his children: Kim (Jeff) Finkle, Cheryl (Al) Canning, and Lorraine (Scott) Smith; grandchildren: Ricki (Gord) McLarty, Pierce Tink, Brittne (Brendan) Tink, Landon Tink, Kristian Tink, Mitchell Soellig, Sydney Soellig, Daryn Smith, and Cassidy Smith; great-grandchildren: Hayden McLarty, Avery McLarty, Nyla Tink, Linden Tink, Bronson Tink, and Rosalie Hicks; siblings: Carol (Hans) Ruch, Dennis (Bev) Canning, Donnie (Lorraine) Canning, and Bonnie (Bob) Mass; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Calvin and Pearl Canning.

A special thank you to all the staff at Prairie Lakes Hospice for their outstanding care and support during his final journey.

A private family celebration will be held at a later date.

    Sorry for your loss, Cheryl ,Lorraine and Kim. I worked with Larry at A.F.S. , he was my supervisor and we became friends , after I had left the forest service we had many memorable trips whether to Jasper or Mexico he was a great travelling partner for my wife and me ; we will miss him.
