Obituary For Lawrence Scott

Lawrence Nelson Scott, resident of Hythe, formerly of Teepee Creek, passed away Friday, February 23, 2018, in Beaverlodge, AB, at the age of 91 years.

Lawrence was born on the family farm outside of Ponoka, AB, on August 31, 1926, to Alice and Frederick Scott. He was the youngest of 9 children.

He started studies at the UofA and decided to pursue a career in the oilfield instead. He worked overseas for a number of years then settled in the Grande Prairie area, namely Grovedale then Teepee Creek.

While in Grovedale, he coached the Grovedale Rebels Broomball Team, and went to Provincials. He was on the coaching team through his son, Gary’s, hockey years. He also enjoyed fishing and spent many July 1st long weekends with his siblings at Iosegun Lake near Fox Creek.

Lawrence enjoyed his work as a well operator and worked full-time until he was 70 and continued to work part-time until officially retiring at 82 years old.

In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and his numerous trophies proved his success. He loved watching sports on TV and was an avid reader. It was not uncommon for him to have 3 books on the go at a time.

Lawrence will be sadly missed by his son Gary and daughter Brenda; grandchildren: Stephen, Sean, Nicole, and Duana; great-grandchildren: Harrison, Joel, Bently, and Jessie; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, siblings, and grandson Darren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at 2:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).

Memorial donations may be made to Hythe and District Pioneer Home Foundation (Box 388, Hythe, AB, T0H 2C0).
