Obituary For Lena Fay Johnson Bacon
Lena Fay Bacon, longtime resident of the Grande Prairie, AB, area, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2021, in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 94 years.
Fay was born September 17,1926, to Carl and Muriel Johnson and grew up on a farm in Fort Saskatchewan with five sisters, sharing the work and joys of family and the great outdoors. She attended the University of Alberta and taught at Leduc, AB, (Fredricksheim) and Fort Saskatchewan. It was here that she found her soulmate Richard (Dick) Bacon. They were married on October 25, 1951. After Dick’s service with the American Army in Korea, they purchased the Carveth land northeast of Grande Prairie, put down roots and farmed for 60 years. She loved the outdoors, gardening, painting projects, family outings up the river, camping and fishing, but her favorite time was harvest. Fay was a welcoming hostess with many wonderful dinners served to family and friends around the old oak table. The years on the farm and raising their three sons was the greatest chapter in her life.
She had a wonderful zest for life and truly gave herself to family, friends, her community, and beyond. Friends will remember her interests and involvement in supporting Red Cross, the Cancer Drives, IODE Canada and St. Paul’s United Church. Family will remember her loving, caring heart, her strong faith and inner strength.
Fay will be lovingly remembered by her children: Jim (Karen), Max (Linda) and Dean (Vicki); grandchildren: Dallas, Kim (Nathan), Kelly (Bruce), Kodi, and Jessi (Darien); great-grandchildren: Kohen, Dawson, David, Wessan, Aria and Oaklee; sisters: Esther (Warren) Foss, Miriam (Elwood) Galloway, Phyllis Williams, and Sheila (Herman) Thorsen; as well as nieces, nephews, the Wells’ family, and many friends.
She was predeceased by her parents Carl and Muriel Johnson; husband Richard (Dick) Bacon; sister Shirley Kelpe; in-laws Gilda and Max Olive, Bob Williams and Richard Kelpe; as well as her loving grandson Dustin.
There will be a gathering at the Bacon farm at a later date to celebrate Fay’s life.
Memorial donations may be made to the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation (10409 98 St., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 2E8).

Auntie Fay was such an amazing, vital woman. I spoke to her often during the past year and heard so much about her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. she seemed to keep in touch with, and was so interested in all of you. I have so many memories of good times at the farm in Grand Prairie. I spoke to Fay last about ten days before she died and she seemed healthy and happy and had been out for a walk that day. She always seemed so positive. I am glad that she was healthy up til the day she died. Our condolences to you all.

Dear Jim, Max, Dean and Families, Auntie Fay was such a beautiful person. I remember all of my trips up to the farm in Grand Prairie so fondly. She was always so hospitable and kind, and taught the city girl in me how to have some country fun. I mowed my first lawn in Grand Prairie, rode my first quad and learned how to drive the jeep. So many wonderful memories... She was always so genuinely interested in the lives of others. She seemed to always have a smile on her face. She was such a classy woman - truly an angel here on earth. Sending you all love at this time. Sincerely, Jessica Swick
