Obituary For Lewis Lindon Ryan
Lewis Lindon Ryan, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie at the age of 81 years.
Lewis was born at West Middle Sable, NS, on November 17, 1939, an only son to Clarence and Hilda (nee Latham) Ryan.
He attended elementary school at a one room country school, then his high school years were spent in Lockeport, NS, where he was active in basketball, soccer, volleyball, baseball, and the student union.
At the age of 17, he moved to Grande Prairie to find work. He worked at a logging camp (Camp 5) that first winter, then got a job at Cockshutt Farm Equipment and received his Partsman Journeyman ticket there.
In 1968, he received employment at Northern Metallic Sales and Visa Truck Rentals, and was a loyal employee for that company for 35 years. Over the years, he was involved in fastball, junior hockey, and junior baseball. He loved to go fishing, hunting, quadding, skidooing and golfing. After his retirement, he was happy to do more of these hobbies plus go out in the bush with his buddy and cut down trees to sell as firewood, which he did for 9 years.
Lewis was a dedicated family man and spent many days at their Sturgeon Lake retreat with family and friends. He was a loyal friend and loved his family.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Betty; children: Jim (Jacki) Ryan, Wenda (Vaughn) Dueck, and Michelle (Brent) Miller; grandchildren: Robert Ryan, Derrick Ryan, Taylor Ryan, Tonya Dueck, Keira Dueck, Bobby Miller, Brenna Miller, and Riley Miller; as well as great-grandchildren: Daniel, Rueben, Asha, Luna, Zachary, Colson, and Lila.
He was predeceased by his parents, Clarence Lewis Ryan, and Hilda Irene Ryan; brother in-law Rob Cunningham; sister in-law Lois Efird; as well as brother in-law Dave Efird.
Memorial donations may be made to Parkinson’s Association of Alberta – Edmonton (11209 86 St. NW, Edmonton, AB, T5B 3H7).

we were so blessed to have been neighbors at the lake and had the joy of getting to know Lew. So many tile games, cups of tea, and fireside chats. He was so cheerful all the time. Hugs to you and your family.

I was so sad to hear of Lew's passing. He had such a great sense of humor. He and I use to play practical jokes on one another when I first started working at Baron ( in the Northern Metalic building). He was always there to teach and help me learn. One of my most favorite people. I will remember him fondly, always. So sorry for your loss. Colleen Rose
