Obituary For Lila Denise Anderson

Lila Anderson, resident of Grande Prairie, Alberta, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, in Grande Prairie at the age of 69 years.

Lila was born April 11, 1955, and was raised in Richmond, Virginia. She attended Virginia Commonwealth University and Medical College of Virginia, where she earned her Registered Nurse designation followed by a nursing career specializing in open heart surgery. In 2003, she reunited with her high school prom date, Wes Anderson, which led to marriage and moving into Wes’ home in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. There she continued her career in the operating room and other RN positions. In 2017, they moved to Grande Prairie, AB, where she worked as an RN until retiring in 2022. Besides her immediate family and coworkers, a large part of her life was the Alliance Church families in Dawson Creek and Grande Prairie, where she grew and nurtured her faith which was a cornerstone of her life.

Lila was a unique blend of empathy and compassion coupled with a practical common-sense approach to life. She cared deeply for her patient’s wellbeing, often saying in a loving manner, “you better wash your hands and take your meds-or else!”

The second most important male in her life (barely) was her beloved Westie, Clyde. Lila loved dogs of all shapes and sizes.

Lila loved gardening and getting her hands dirty, the mountains and spending her weekends camping.

She will be sadly missed by her husband, Wes; stepsons: Luke and Jacob; sister Bridget; sisters and brother-in-law: Sue Hills, Rebecca Walker, and Dan Anderson; father-in-law Terry Anderson; and sister-in-law Betty Jean Gaines and many nieces, nephews and cousins in the United States.

Lila was predeceased by her father Percy, mother Lillian, and her brothers Charles and Percy Jr.

A Funeral service will be held in Lila’s honour on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 3:00PM at the Grande Prairie Alliance Church (15502 -102 Street, Grande Prairie, AB)

Memorial donations may be made to Bandaged Paws Grande Prairie or Faith In Deed (c/o the Grande Prairie Alliance Church).
