Obituary For Lionel Dale Chambers

Lionel Dale Chambers, known as Grampa or Uncle Dale, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2019, at the age of 80 years.

Dale grew up on the family farm in the Two Rivers area, south of Beaverlodge, AB with his parents Ted and Madeline and his sister Joan. In 1958, he married Dorothy Jean McFadzen. They moved to Wembley in 1963 where they raised their family.

Dale worked hard all his life. He was an elevator agent for UGG and he worked for the Village of Wembley as secretary. He worked for Bechtel building the pulp mill and afterwards for Proctor and Gamble. He retired from Weyerhaeuser after working at the mill for over 30 years.

Dale was loved by everyone who knew him. He would do anything for anyone: help you move, paint a room, shingle a roof – whatever he could do to be helpful. His favourite pastime was entertaining friends and family. You never left Grampa Dale’s place hungry. He also loved quadding and snowmobiling in his free time with family.

Dale’s greatest joy was his grandchildren. He loved playing cards, especially crib. All the grandkids got a crib tutorial at Gramma and Grampa’s house. Grampa Dale had a great sense of humour and a contagious laugh. He always had a joke or secret comment to make you laugh.

Dale was diagnosed with dementia and, even through a tough year, he remained sweet, loving, funny and helpful.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 61 years Dorothy; children: Jerry (Brenda) Chambers, Sandy (Murray) Head, and Barbie (Darren) Dunbar; grandchildren: Terrance, Tasha, Sondra, Jenn, Spencer, Donavan, Dalton and Dalaney; and great-grandchildren: Tommy, Ty and Torrie Chambers, Ben Oakes, Lachlan and Maysie Lenes.

Dale was predeceased by his sister Joan Jones, son Kenny Chambers, and grandson Shane Head.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer Society (102, 9823 116 Ave., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 4B4) or Canadian Cancer Society (200, 325 Manning Road NE, Calgary, AB, T2E 2P5).

Roxanne & I are very saddened to hear about Dale's passing. I have great memories when I worked for Dale at UGG when we were young kids. Shoveling out the elevators was hard work but fun. He had a great sense of humor. I remember Dale & dad building Town Center Mall then going to Bechtel & Proctor & Gamble. He will be sadly missed by all his friends. We wish we could come home for his farewell. I'll keep all the great memories of the past.

Dale was always a kind, helpful and happy individual. I worked with him beginning in 1977 and continued over 25 years. I remember when he returned to work after his throat operation and he continued to enjoy working with all the people around him. He will be missed for sure. I was so saddened to hear about his passing. Sharon
