Obituary For Lloyd Roderick Cook

Lloyd Roderick Cook resident of Grande Prairie, AB formerly of Rycroft, AB passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at Mackenzie Place at the age of 87 years.

Lloyd was born on November 10, 1937 in Ponoka, AB to parents Martha and Leonard Cook. They lived on a farm in Usona District, raising cattle and sheep. They had two children, Rose and Lloyd.

Leonard died in 1938, and Martha then married Leonard’s older brother Clarence Cook in 1939 and shortly after the family moved to Bonanza. Clarence and Martha had two children, Clara and Ethel.

Lloyd took his schooling at Clark School and Bonanza for a short time. Lloyd started working for the Department of Transportation in 1959, running a grader. He worked at this job until 1980. He then began a backhoe and trucking business for himself until his retirement.

Lloyd married Joyce Lightfoot in 1962, they had three children: Kevin, Keith and Denise Cook. The family lived in Eaglesham for ten years, then relocated to Rycroft.

Dad was well known for his mischievous grin; he was a man of very few words, but his face said it all.

Dad had a natural born musical talent, he played guitar and accordion. We grew up in a house that was always filled with music, either amateur jam sessions with extended family members or the stereo playing. Dad had a passion for all kinds of music which he instilled in all of his children and grandchildren.

Lloyd will be deeply missed by his daughter Denise, daughter-in-law Leah Cook, grandchildren; Merissa (Jon) Halls, Carley (Casey) Moskalyk, Charlene (BJ) Schulze, Jordan (Amanda) Cook, Madison Cook (Kaden Black), and Brooklyn Cook. Great grandchildren; Jace, Markus and Maddox Halls, Kypton, Lux and Mia Froehlick, Lincoln, Bentley and Quinn Schulze, Bow and Mikayla Cook.

Lloyd was predeceased by both his sons Kevin Cook March 30, 2018, and Keith Allan Cook, December 15, 2024.

The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to Mackenzie Place for their amazing care of dad for the last three years. Their compassion and care of dad and us during his last few hours was greatly appreciated.
