Obituary For Lorne Murray McNutt

Lorne “Buzz” Murray McNutt passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2020, in Grande Prairie, AB, at the age of 76 years.

Lorne was born May 8, 1943 in Milton, NS, to Stanley and Laura McNutt.

He was known for his exuberant storytelling, and he always had an audience no matter how many times he told his tale, even if some were a bit exaggerated.

Lorne was in the Canadian Army from 1960 to 1963, where he advanced to Lance Corporal. Shortly after leaving the army, he moved from Nova Scotia to Ontario, where he met his future wife Terry while staying at her parent’s boarding house. They were married in April of 1964.

In the fall of 1979, Lorne and his family made the trek west. First landing in Vermilion, then in the summer of 1980, heading to Clairmont, where the family has made their home ever since.

Lorne loved the great outdoors, fishing, hunting, camping, RV road trips, and travelling. He was always up for the next adventure. Whether it was just him and Terry, or a group of close friends, he enjoyed all his travels.

He was a County Councillor for District 2 (Clairmont) County of GP #1 from 1995 – 2003. He enjoyed his role as Councillor because he prided himself in helping the people of his district, as well as the rest of the country with any of their questions or concerns. Lorne had many careers along the way, including construction, auctions, retail, and farming. But always flourished when he was running his own businesses.

To Lorne, family was the most important thing in his life. The more members that came along, the happier he was. His favourite time was Christmas because the family always made Christmastime larger than life. He always had the best times going Christmas shopping with his daughter Lori.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 56 years Terry; children Leanne (Perry) Comeau, and Lori (Steven) MacNutt; grandchildren Krystine (Jon) Ouellette, and Taylor Burns (Brittney), great-grandchildren Lydia and Wyatt; sister Maxine; brothers Mervin and Victor; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Lorne was predeceased by his brothers: Walter, Merrill, and Gordon; and sisters: Marion, Amy, Elizabeth, Greta, and Florence.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 18, 2020 at 2:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie 910005 107 Ave.). Livestream of the service will be available on Lorne’s obituary. Link will be live 15 minutes before the service time.

Sending my deepest condolences to Terry, Lori, Leanne and their families, as well as the many friends he had. When my dad passed when Lori and I were kids Buzz was like a father for me for a few years. I'm sure everyone will miss but fondly remember his stories and won't be able to help but smile when they think of them. Our paths didn't cross alot in later years, but when they did they were filled with good stories and laughs...thanks Buzz, from Deana, Taren and the Bastien family
