Obituary For Lorraine Frances Ray Ducharme

Lorraine Frances Ducharme, resident of Grande Prairie, formerly of Beaverlodge, AB, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2019, ten days after her 88th birthday.

Lorraine Ray was born in Grande Prairie on September 18, 1931. She attended school in New Haven and Beaverlodge. As a young girl, Lorraine was a majorette and baton twirler and she loved to curl with her family and friends. She met Maynard Ducharme in 1947 and they were married on May 7, 1953 in Grande Prairie.

Lorraine was a loving wife, mother of three, grandmother of six and great-grandmother of nine. She was a private person who cherished her family and loved to be surrounded by them. She enjoyed a wide variety of crafts and created beautiful dollies, Eskimo parkas, knitted and crocheted treasures, homemade greeting cards and ceramics. Her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids enjoyed receiving anything Gramma Lorraine made for them and will keep them close as a reminder of Gramma.

Maynard and Lorraine enjoyed camping with their friends, making numerous trips to various lakes and to Alaska. They also were avid supporters of their kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids in their activities, whether it was volleyball, dance, fastball, hockey, gymnastics, downhill ski racing, swimming, or rodeo. If there was a family member involved, Lorraine and Maynard were there cheering them on!!

Lorraine is survived by her husband of 66 years Maynard Ducharme; daughters Debbie Isley and Carey (Barry) Nichol; son Monty (Debbie) Ducharme; grandchildren: Crystal (Dean) Watson, Rylie Nichol (Glenn Taylor), Colby Nichol, Miranda Ducharme (Blake Hamilton), Christopher Ducharme, and Kai Ducharme; great-grandchildren Hayley Watson, Jayden Watson, Kyler Watson, Adalyn Taylor, Lily Taylor, Isaac Taylor, Coen Taylor, Cali Marshall, and Ryder Rogg; sister Joan (Charles) Dupuis; brother Delbert (Irene) Ray; brother in-law Merle Harding; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Lorraine was predeceased by her parents Jack and Gladys Ray, parents in-law Jack and Annie Ducharme, sister Donna Harding, brother Lloyd Ray, and sister in-law Rose Marie Lossing.

At Lorraine’s request, no funeral will be held. A family memorial will take place in the near future and her ashes laid to rest in Halcourt Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Beaverlodge Hospital Foundation (Box 480, Beaverlodge, AB, T0H 0C0) or to Grande Prairie Palliative Care Society (#204, 10134 97 Ave., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 7X6).
