Obituary For Louis Isaac "Tony" Groves

Louis Isaac “Tony” Groves resident of Grande Prairie AB, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital at the age of 88 years.

Louis Isaac Groves Jr, known affectionately as” Tony” was born in Champion, Alberta on February 18, 1937, to Gertrude and Louis Isaac Groves Sr (Ike) He was child number three joining Doug and Herb (Herb’s twin Edward passed away at birth.). The family of five travelled to the Peace River area in 1937 where they took up farming near Debolt; this is where his younger siblings Margaret and baby Marjorie were born. Tony spent his younger years working alongside his brothers on the family farm and decided early in his life to pursue work away from the farm. His favorite job was as a parts man, this job took him from Slave Lake AB to Kimberly BC. Tony also spent his time in the evenings as a part-time bartender, in fine establishments in Rocky Mountain House and Slave Lake, this job was a great way for him to meet people. He eventually retired and travelled back to his hometown of Debolt where he enjoyed working part time at the Debolt Store.

Tony enjoyed visiting with the community members and keeping current on local gossip. His last home was at Dieppe Manor in Grande Prairie, where he spent many evenings playing card games with Doug, Val and Jack. He enjoyed the occasional Crown Royal and Coke and he looked forward to regular Friday night dinners at Boston Pizza with Jack. His favorite pastime was playing slot machines on his ipad, checking out Facebook, messaging with his daughter and cheering on the BlueJays and the Oilers.

He was a caring man, who enjoyed knowing what everyone in his family was doing. He always had a supportive and kind word to share. His health became an issue in the last few years, but he dealt with each issue with grace and a shrug of his shoulders.

He is survived by his Daughter Tammy Groves, her husband Sean, Grandson Connor and Great Granddaughter Arwen. Grandson Kai and his girlfriend Brigid. Brother Doug and his wife Val. Brother-in-law Jack Scott and numerous nephews and nieces as well as extended family.

Tony was predeceased by his parents, two sisters, two brothers and a brother-in-law.

He will be Missed. Rest easy Uncle Tony!

As per Tony’s request there will be no service.
