Obituary For Lynne Brown
It is with profound sadness that the family of Lynne Brown, shares the news of her passing on Saturday, August 12, 2023. Lynne passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.
Lynne was born on October 29, 1943, to Annie Isobel (nee Parton) Bruder and Robert Martin Bruder of Westlock, AB. She was born the first of 6 strong women. Lynne was a steadfast independent woman right until her passing. On her last day she drove to her treasured farm, picked copious amounts of vegetables she grew and then shared them with those she loved. Her generosity to share from her and daughter Terri’s gigantic garden knew no bounds. She shared her knowledge, her opinions, and wit unconditionally with any and all who sought it. There was never any doubt where you stood with Grandma Lynne! She loved to share all her talents whether it be gardening, weaving, history, and remarkable knowledge of facts and information, including most of the birthdays of every and anyone she encountered and taught. Lynne was a voracious reader. There was always a book in her purse, truck side pocket, console, bedside, chair side, farm porch etc. etc.
Lynne was a devoted educator for 60+ years. She formally taught for 34 years with County of Grande Prairie/Peace Wapiti School division in Hythe and Beaverlodge, AB. Individuals she taught can attest to her no nonsense, pragmatic, and practical approach. After her formal teaching, Lynne continued to share her knowledge through weaving sessions for adults and children and information sessions at the Beaverlodge Museum. She unconditionally shared her knowledge with anyone and everyone who ever asked her (sometimes whether wanted or not!). Lynne always met her students where they were with openness and patience. Once students earned her respect, she never gave up helping individuals achieve and succeed.
Lynne was a stoic yet intensely caring soul, a fierce mother, and grandmother - her family’s rock. Her family was everything to her. She rarely missed a sporting event of one of her 8 grandsons, a trip with someone to the farm, a lunch with a son or grandsons at the farmer’s market, or a wonderful trip where one of us would take her. When one of us called, she would be there! In the last years of life, she was a constant help daily at her son’s business. She could be counted on to do virtually anything; custom wash, bookkeeping, envelopes, hose out the bays, train new drivers, and she didn’t hesitate to crack the whip where needed! She treasured the steadfast loyalty of her close friends and family.
She is survived by her three children: son Robert Murray Brown (Hermina Lieverse Brown), their sons: Travis Robert Brown (Paige) and Darby John Brown; daughter Terri Lynne Brown (Richard Lappenbush), and their sons: Rhett Dailyn Lappenbush (Stacey), Payton Richard Lappenbush, Lee Edward Lappenbush, and Terris Arthur Lappenbush (Alyssa); and daughter Cheryl Anne Brown (Mark Klemp), and their sons: Murray Louis Venance and Owen Brian Venance; as well as sisters Shirley Denkhaus (Bob), Julie Millar (Charlie), and Joan Latimer (Wes).
Lynne was predeceased by her parents Isobel and Bob Bruder; husband Murray Leonard Brown; as well as sisters Barbara Wiese and Joyce Walkingshaw.
The family would like to thank Dr. Miller and Dr. Van for Mom’s health care over her life. In addition, we want to thank her close friend Tanyss Tews who was always there for tea and a chat (as well as her family for their friendship and tremendous support at Mom’s passing). A special thank you to those who helped out with Mom’s garden, fed us, called us and sent us messages - you kept us all going at this trying time; Grandma Lynne will be missed immeasurably.
A Celebration of her Life will be announced at a later date. She will be laid to rest privately with her family at the farm near Elmworth where she spent the best and last of her days in her garden.
If individuals desire, memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (Suite 100-119 14th St. NW Calgary, T2N 1Z6, www.heartandstroke.ca), or Beaverlodge Cultural Center (Box 569 Beaverlodge AB T0H 0C0), or Beaverlodge Centennial Museum (Box 569 Beaverlodge AB T0H 0C0), or a charity of one’s choice.
If you need a moment to reflect, here is a very appropriate song to celebrate her memory https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCnpACM6dgA

My condolences to the Family. She was definitely an inspiring teacher, and would always have great conversations with you as you met her. Even when I had not been in her classroom for more than 40 years. She will be a great loss for not only family & friends, but also for the local communities for all of her wisdom & caring that showed to all that she met. Kevin Lett (her student in 1973)

Lynne will always be in my memory as a strong, professional teacher who always had the students welfare and education as a primary goal. She was always prepared to contribute her very best to all the students and staff endeavours at Beaverlodge Elementary School. So sorry to hear of her passing as, I am sure, she would still be a solid contributor to her whole community.

I enjoyed getting gardening advice from Lynne and hearing about how her plants were doing. And after a long day for us both at the store I was still able to get a big smile and share a laugh with Lynne. I am grateful for those memories.

Dear Cheryl and Terry- from the moment we met, Lynne was 100 % herself- warm, friendly, genuine, very involved with her family , and at the same time working at creating possibility for all children - e.g. our Brilliant Barracudas. I knew I had met someone strong, with firm values, committed, hard working and open. Her love and sheer force will be missed- she was a Mrs.Beaverlodge .

Sincere sympathy and condolences to Lynne's family, she was always so proud of her children and grandchildren filling me in on how each was doing. I met Lynne when she delivered water to our store, a truck full of little ones going to the cabin which made her so happy. May she be gardening in a beautiful full garden with sun shining on her face.

I am not sure how we became friends but over many years we did. She liked a cup of tea in a China cup. I had the privilege of visiting with her before she headed to the farm and was able to give her a hug and tell her how much she meant to me. I will miss you my friend.
