Obituary For Maelene "Faye" Giesbrecht

Maelene “Faye” Giesbrecht, a long-time resident of the Grande Prairie, AB, area, peacefully passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2022, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, at the age of 76 years.

Faye was one of seven children, born in Saskatoon, SK, on September 14, 1945, to Peter and Helen Klassen. She was raised in Saskatchewan where she met the man she would marry, Isaac “Ike” Giesbrecht. After marriage, Isaac and Faye moved to British Columbia where Ike made a living working in the bush, and Faye began her lifelong journey of motherhood. In 1975, with seven children to care for, they moved to Teepee Creek, AB, and stayed in the Grande Prairie area until their life’s journeys came to an end.

Faye not only had seven children, but would welcome any child with open arms and treat them as her own. A pillar of strength, an unshakable faith and unwavering love for all. Faye continued her caring for children and was an honored childcare provider for many years; bringing joy, smiles, and love to so many.

Anyone who knew Faye would tell you that she was the most kind, thoughtful, giving and joyfull person. She never asked for anything in return and would only hope that you would do the same for someone else. Spreading goodness was natural for her and she would shine with the light of the Lord at all times, appreciating all that she had, never expecting more. Always making time for everyone else, her family, friends, work, or volunteering; she was the last of her worries. Faye dedicated a lot of her time to volunteer work with Sewing for Kids, and Joy Chapel where she would work her fingers to the bone to ensure someone else’s happiness.

Faye will be forever loved and never forgotten by her children: Richard (Shirley) Giesbrecht, Terry Giesbrecht, Rozi (Rob) Bryce, Ben (Kim) Giesbrecht, Phillip Giesbrecht, Coreena (Ed) Batke, and Christina (Richard) Chow; thirty-five grandchildren; as well as thirty-five great-grandchildren.

She was called home to the Lord and the three angels who waited for her in heaven: her husband Isaac, and two grandsons Jason Giesbrecht and Gerald Giesbrecht.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday April 22, 2022, at 2:00pm, at Westpointe Community Church in Grande Prairie (11305 Pinnacle Blvd.). Luncheon to follow the service for those not going to the Interment at the Emerson Trail Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Westpointe Community Church via e-transfer to westpointe@hotmail.com.

Condolences to you my cousins for the loss of your dear mom. I had the pleasure of a short visit with her when she last travelled to Burns Lake with Jake & Dorothy. She really was such a kind and giving person who was a great support to my mom after my dad passed.
