Obituary For Magdaline Schiele Cartwright
After a long and full life, we say goodbye to Magdaline Cartwright. She passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at the age of 101 years.
Magdaline, known as Marion to her friends and Lena to her family, was born in Towner, North Dakota and came to Revenue, SK as a young girl with her family, which eventually included 12 children. She was the last living of her immediate family.
She was married to Percy Cartwright for 60 years. He predeceased her in 2001 as did her twin sister Francis. Her son Ivan passed away in 2011.
Percy and Magdaline were longtime residents of Grande Prairie. Magdaline lived here for 72 years.
Magdaline was a talented and devoted homemaker. Her family received many of her lovely quilts, knitted afghans, and baking, especially her cinnamon buns. Her great-grandchildren received knitted baby clothes as well. She was an avid gardener and seamstress. She had a continuing interest in hockey, especially the Oilers and in local news.
We will miss her independent strength and her laugh and will cherish her memory. She was a longtime member of Christ Church Anglican.
She will be fondly remembered by her children: Iris Williams of North Vancouver, BC, Sharida (Doug) Sawyer of Victoria, BC, Allan Cartwright (Luana Carlson) of Courtenay, BC, and daughter in-law Gail Elgert of Prince George, BC; grandchildren: Allison Cartwright, Vanessa Cartwright (Mark Sprungmann), Kelly Williams (Laura), Darren Williams (Rose), Sarah Sawyer (Edward Roddy), Mark Sawyer (Stacey), and Peter Sawyer (Yelda Gulderen); great-grandchildren: Darrick Cartwright, Britney Cartwright, Alexander Sprungmann, Luke Williams, Elise Williams, Mason Williams, Morgan Williams, Jade Sawyer, Dane Sawyer, Nicholas Roddy, and William Roddy.
Thank you to the staff of The Gardens for their compassionate care and attention, and to the Homecare nurses Chris and Nancy.
Magdaline will join her husband Percy Cartwright in the family plot in Wilkie, SK.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity of your choice.

Dear Iris and family, I am sorry for your loss. Your mom was an amazing lady and my mom loved her! It was very special that Mrs Cartwright lived such an amazing long life! My mom, Pearl Tabor, passed just before Christmas... quite quickly with no trauma so I have that to be thankful for even though she was only 86:) Warmth, Tannis
