Obituary For Margarette Pickering Jobson

Margarette Jobson (nee Pickering), resident of Grande Prairie, went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at the QEII Hospital, at the age of 97 years.

Margarette was born in a log cabin built by her father in North Kleskun on October 4, 1919. She was premature and very small so her father put her in a blanket lined crate by the fire to keep her warm.

Mom spent her life in service of others, always concerned about another’s needs, especially food. She loved to cook and you never left her house hungry, the grandchildren always had a full cookie jar to raid. She was an avid knitter and all family have received a pair of homemade mitts from grandma. She was knitting right up until her fall on Wednesday, September 5, at Points West Living, which had been her home for 3 years. She would ask us to bring her goodies, which we of course did, but realized that she was giving the treats away to other family members.

She is survived by her children: George (Diane), Bob (Leanne), Jennie, Lloyd (Diane), Floyd (Marion), and Kathleen (Marvin); twenty three grandchildren, forty four great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Margarette was predeceased by both her parents Raymond and Jennie (Williams) Pickering; husband Lloyd Jobson; brothers: David Pickering, Charlie Pickering (both in World War II) and Raymond Pickering; sister Patricia (Jack) Mclane; and son in-law Les Smith.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 18, 2017, at 11:00am, at Christ Church Anglican in Grande Prairie (6610 Poplar Drive). Interment to follow at Grande Prairie Cemetery (84th Ave. and 112th St.).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grande Prairie Food Bank in honour of her desire to always ensure everyone was fed.
