Obituary For Margery Bryan Polasek

Jean Polasek (née Bryan) was born March 22, 1932 in Sexsmith, and passed away on Friday, November 20, 2015, at the age of 83 years.

Jean grew up on a homestead in the Woking area, and after becoming a teacher, she married the love of her life Mike Polasek in 1950. In the following years, life was full of change and adventure: they homesteaded north of Spirit River and during that time their three children were born. Subsequently, they worked in a fishing village in BC, as well as in a logging camp at Keg River, and then settled on the farm west of Clairmont.

During these busy years, Jean took care of her growing children and carried on with a diverse and fulfilling teaching career that spanned over 30 years. However, all these responsibilities never dampened Jean's zest for life; she enjoyed her family and friends, her many students, and her hobbies which included entertaining, enjoying her flowers, and later, traveling with Mike.

Jean is survived by her 3 children, Lorae Marsten, Carie (Bruce) Willis, and Jim (Deb) Polasek; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Jean was predeceased by her husband Mike, siblings Bruce and Jack Bryan, Beth Perkins, and Fern Doebert, as well as her foster son Clarence Chowace.

We invite you to join us for a memorial celebration of Jean's life which will be held on Monday, November 30, 2015 at 11:00am at the Sexsmith Civic Centre.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to Parkinson Alberta (#103 10901 100 St. Grande Prairie, AB T8V 2M9) or to the Canadian Cancer Society (#103 9805 97 St. Grande Prairie, AB T8V 8B9).

Condolences

Jean was a very special teacher as she took a deep interest in all her students. Her smile was infectious. My brother, Roy Eady, once told me she was the only teacher in Sexsmith that made him want to be there in school and the only one that could make him learn. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family on your loss.

Mrs Polasek was one of my favorite teachers while attending Sexsmith School. I remember her Social Studies classes to this day. Yes we probably all were "little wretches" as she called us. Rest in peace Mrs Polasek. Clinton and Jeannette Ward

Ken knew Jean as his teacher and neighbour "down by Bear Lake". I knew and loved Jean from our first meeting at Clairmont United Church. I remember when we first moved back to the farm driving past Mike and Jean's "blue house" and commenting on the gorgeous flowers in the yard and told Ken that I wanted to meet whoever lived there. I was so lucky to know and worship with Jean, sneak cigarettes on our visits, and to chat about the community and family. The Bear Lake community, Clairmont United Church and the Polasek family will have a huge void in their midst with Jean's death. Well loved, well respected!

Mom asked me to pass on the following message to you: "Please pass on my deepest condolences to Jean's children and their families & sincere regrets that I will be unable to attend her memorial celebration. She was very, very special. I've lost my best friend." Margaret Hockey Carie, I've given Mom your #, and she will be in touch with you by phone in December. She flew up last fall to visit with your Mom & has routinely kept in touch by phone since then; including a wonderful conversation after Jean went into hospice. Burt and I are unable to be there in person today, but you are in our thoughts and prayers. Thank you for making sure this most recent contact with your Mom was possible by returning my messages; I realize you must be hearing from many, many people whose lives your Mom touched. Jackie
