Obituary For Marie Ann Shmyr

Marie Ann Shmyr, resident of Rycroft, AB, passed away Friday, November 1, 2019, in Central Peace Health Complex in Spirit River, AB, at the age of 79 years.

Marie was born June 25, 1940 on the farm in Volin, AB. She grew up on the farm and attended Volin School. Marie spent her life in the Central Peace area, making substantial contributions to the community through volunteer work and always enjoyed participating in community events.

Marie married Nick in 1955 and they were blessed with three sons. Marie was passionate about cooking and prepared delicious food for thousands of people over her lifetime. She was a true hockey fan and loved watching all levels of hockey. Marie devoted herself to caring for her family and friends.

She will be sadly missed by her children: David, Terry (Sandi), and Marshall (Barb); grandchildren: Nichole (Aaron), Melissa (Sheldon), David Jr., Malorie (Lindsay), Dana (Hailey), Jace, and Savanah; great-grandchildren: Dylan, Liam, Jazmine, Ava, Angelo, and Connor; brother Harry (Emily); sister Anne; sister in-law Bernice; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Marie was predeceased by her parents Nicholas and Katherine, husband Nickolas, brother Steve, and brother in-law William.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2019, at 1:00pm, at Rycroft Ag Society (5010 49 Ave.). A Viewing will be held prior at 12:00pm.

Memorial donations may be made to Rotary House (10101 97A St., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 0X3), or to a charity of one’s choice.

    My condolences to the Mrs. Shmyr's entire family and to all of her friends. A more lovely woman could not have been put on this earth. She always had time for a smile, a laugh, and for food. I will treasure all memories I have of her, particularly of her smile and laugh. And her perogies have alway and will always be the best I've ever had. Rest well Mrs. Shmyr and know that you will be missed and treasured by all who knew and loved you.

    I appreciated Auntie Marie's eye for beauty and her gift for cooking delicious food--both things that inspired me later in my own life. She was a feisty and audacious woman, and I know her passing leaves a hole in the lives of her family who loved her.

    So sorry for your loss. The stories and messages along with the Facebook page that David shared showed how much she was loved and respected. I felt like I had known her. She was sure Proud of both of you guys and loved the fishing stories. And loved to eat those walleye and fish that made her way into her home. May she Rest In Peace and look over you.     We are very saddened by Marie's passing. Our prayers and many, many hugs are with all of the family and relatives. Marie was very family orientated but never forgot her friends. She was always concerned about everyone else and put them before herself. Marie, we love you and and you will not ever be forgotten.We wish your journey to Heaven an easy one and there to meet you will be all your loved ones that have gone before and your Lord..
