Obituary For Marie Anne Kulicki
It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Marie Anne Kulicki. She passed away peacefully on December 23, 2023 at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital. She was 69 years old.
Marie was born on September 25, 1954 to parents Stanley and Jean Kulicki in Sexsmith, Alberta. Marie had two older brothers, Edward and Robert (Bob), and a younger sister Susan. She lived on the family farm in Webster until 1972 when she married John Ciezki. They moved to Grande Prairie, but soon relocated to Banff. Her and John returned to Grande Prairie in their late 20s’ and welcomed two children; Travis John Ciezki, born in 1979 and Nicole Marie Ciezki, born in 1981. Although John and Marie divorced, Marie has had a huge impact on the Ciezki family and the passing years have not changed their love for her.
Marie worked in various careers, but most notably with the RCMP in Banff, with Avon Canada, as a Realtor (with several accolades and awards to which she was very proud), with Weyerhaeuser Canada, and most recently with Alberta Health Services - where it has become very apparent she was deeply loved by the staff and her colleagues there. Marie had many visitors her last week in the hospital from her work family, and their compassion, concern and kindness is a testament to the genuine friendships she made with them. Her family will be eternally grateful for that.
Marie had a deep love of nature and animals, especially enjoying her walks through Muskoseepi Park, and there was always a story to share. Her first grandchildren were of the furry kind and they were loved and treated as if they were her own. Nicole and Michael Gillis married in 2006 and were blessed with Marie’s first granddaughter Miah Gillis in 2012. Travis married Amber Stephenson in 2017 and brought Marie her second granddaughter Violet in 2018. Marie found such purpose and happiness in being “Grandma Marie”, and she was cherished and adored by her granddaughters in return. The hundreds of play dates in the park, adventures in the wagon, fashion shows in the basement (Marie liked the banana suit best) and pinch bug-hide-n-seek extravaganzas are memories that will never be forgotten. Her granddaughters already miss her immensely.
Marie is survived by her son Travis, daughter-in-law Amber, and their daughter Violet; her daughter Nicole, son-in-law Michael and their daughter Miah. She is also survived by her sister Susan Kyle and brother-in-law Angus McIntosh. Marie had very special relationships with Jeannette & John Golko, Phyllis Shofner-Backer, Donna Speerin and Nelson Bilodeau. There are numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, colleagues and very special people that have meant so much to Marie over the years that I know are feeling our pain and sadness, and we can feel your love for her in every text, email, phone call and prayer. Thank You.
Marie is predeceased by her parents Stanley and Jean Kulicki, her brothers Bob and Edward Kulicki and Jean’s second husband Les Gow.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, January 3rd at 11:00 am at Oliver’s Funeral Home (10005-107 Avenue, Grande Prairie, Alberta) with lunch to follow. Interment will be held at Webster Cemetery (north of Sexsmith) shortly after for anyone who wishes to attend.

Marie was always so friendly and efficient. We relied on her expertise and she was always ready to help a person out. It's hard to believe she's gone and I can only imagine the hole she has left in your lives as she spoke often of how very much joy her family brought her. We will surely miss her. So sorry for your loss.

This saddens my heart so deeply. Marie was cherished at work with AHS and we were all so grateful for having her in our world. She mothered us all and was so conscientious in her work; Marie kept us organized and was loved and appreciated beyond measure. She was extremely proud of her family and shared stories of her fur babies and grandchildren with great enjoyment. I am sooo grateful for having had the privilege of working alongside her and she will be missed enormously. My deepest condolences to her family. Tracey

You all have my heartfelt sympathies. I've had the pleasure of working with Marie since she began her work at the Virene building for AHS. She and I both were early arrivals at work and not very many days went by without seeing her beautiful smile and hearing her chipper, "Hi Amanda!" first thing in the morning. She has had a lasting impact on so many of us and we will miss her presence greatly. Sending prayers of comfort for her family as you grieve her sudden passing and the loss of someone who truly touched everyone she met. I will miss you, Marie!
