Obituary For Marie Swerediuk Semeniuk

Marie Semeniuk, longtime resident of Codesa, AB, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2020, in Spirit River, AB, at the age of 86 years.

Marie was born to Anna and Nikita Swerediuk on July 30, 1933 in Rycroft, AB.

Marie married John Semeniuk in 1950. She worked at the Spirit River Hospital when they were first married. Together, they decided to move to the homestead in Codesa where they made a life and raised a family. John passed away in 1983 and, in order to continue living on the farm that she loved, Marie went to work. She was employed for a number of years by the Wanham Alfalfa Pelleting Plant and the Belloy Greenhouse. She resided on her farm for 65+ years.

Marie will be remembered for living a simple life close to nature. She loved spending many hours with family and friends fishing, hunting, trapping, picking mushrooms and berries, gardening, and growing flowers. Marie enjoyed playing cards and rarely missed going to bingo with her niece Liz. Marie loved her family and especially enjoyed her grandchildren’s visits. She had an aptitude for crafts of all kinds. In her generous nature, most everything she crocheted, knitted, collected, or built, she gave away.

In 2017, Marie moved to Pleasant View Lodge in Spirit River. She loved the social aspect and made many friends. She enjoyed learning and playing Qwirkle with the “girls”. She had also discovered a new passion for painting in watercolours.

A special thank you to the devoted volunteers and staff of Pleasant View Lodge and to the special Homecare workers that assisted her over the years. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Danae Wolfaardt.

Marie is survived and will be greatly missed by her children: Stephen (Cathy), Irene (Chris), and Sergie (Lois); grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sister Irene (Adam) Loeffelmann, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many good friends.

Marie was predeceased by her husband John, parents Anna and Nikita Swerediuk, sister Pauline Nedohin, and brother Alex Swerediuk.

A private family service will be held.

If you so wish, memorial donations may be made to Grande Spirit Foundation for Pleasant View Lodge (9505 102 Ave., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 7G9).

Condolences

My sincere condolences to Marieâ??s family, and sending prayers of comfort at this difficult time. She was a great neighbor and friend to my parents on the farm. They spent many hours together playing cards, hunting, fishing and enjoyed each otherâ??s company. She and my dad are probably playing crib together in heaven, with lots of debate and laughs!

I was very sorry to hear of Marieâ??s passing. I was blessed to have her as my neighbour when we lived in the Codesa area. We had a lot of fun picking berries, mushrooms, playing cards and one very memorable hilarious time catching chickens. She was a genuine person and she walked the talk. She will definitely be missed. With warm regards, Bieny Pryor

I am so sorry to hear about your Mother's passing. Your mom and mine (Rita Thibeault) were very close friends and I'll never forget how much she talked about her even years after my mother's passing. You mom was always so kind and inviting to me and my family and i always made sure to "drop in" when i was up in that area. My last visit with her was just before she moved to Spirit River and I was so glad to hear that she was registered to move into town for more care...I hope that she was. My deepest sympathies...thinking of all of you during this time Lionel Thibeault 403-803-0939 Lionel.Thibeault@gmail.com
