Obituary For Martha Elizabeth Willms Klassen

Martha Elizabeth Klassen, resident of Wanham, AB, formerly of Coaldale, AB, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2020, at the Grande Prairie Care Centre at the age of 80 years.

Martha was born in Coaldale, AB, on January 3, 1940. In 1962, she married Bill Klassen and went on to start their family with the birth of their eldest child Sue. Martha then moved in 1983 with her husband and family to Wanham, AB, where she would spend the rest of her life.

Martha was as compassionate as she was determinedly generous. She was the type to give the pets table-scraps, and the grandchildren baking even if parents would tell her they'd had plenty for one day. She was an attentive and active farmer, who would even take the time and care to name every one of the cattle on the farm. Through her example, she taught her children to be strong, self-reliant, and willing to exceed expectations.

Martha was a lifelong gardener and animal lover. She loved the outdoors and the tranquillity of being surrounded by flora and fauna. Throughout her life, she was an avid reader and owned enough books to fill a small library.

She will be sadly missed by her husband Bill; her children: Sue, Margie (Kim), Dave (Lois), and Dan; grandchildren: Jenny (Jim), Alex, Sam, Katherine, Nicole, Jake, Matthew, and Katie; and great-grandson Wesley.

She was predeceased by her parents Abram and Susanna Willms; several siblings; and her daughter Angela Joy.

The Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2020, at Westvale Cemetery at 1:00pm. Due to the current restrictions due to COVID-19, the service will be limited to immediate family only.

I was privileged to be one of her older nephews and have great memories of spending time with Aunt Betty., especially as a young child. She was our dadâ??s youngest sister and still young enough to enjoy playing with us. We loved her. We are so sorry for your loss and wish we could be there to celebrate her life with you. With love from John and Esther

I am so sorry to hear of Mrs Klassenâ??s passing. She left a lasting mark on all of her piano students and truly cared about each of us. Her love of music and piano was contagious and she always knew when you didnâ??t practice :). She was one of my biggest champions growing up and Iâ??ll be forever grateful for her believing in me. I stopped playing for many years because life got in the way, but Iâ??m now picking it up again to pass it onto my 3 children. I look forward to passing on the knowledge she gave to me in a way that honours her legacy of teaching music.
