Obituary For Martin Hofer
Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Uncle, Grandpa and Friend
In loving memory of Martin Hofer, who passed away peacefully at home, at the age of 62 years, with his family by his side.
Martin was born in Swalwell, Alberta and lived at Fairview Colony where he worked in the hog barn until he moved to Grande Prairie, Alberta in 1977 at the age of 23 years, where he married the love of his life Margaret Stahl on July 23, 1978. Martin was the hog manager at Grandview Colony for the next 42 years. Within the last 4 years he started the business of running a canola press and selling canola oil. He was well known for teaching his fellow workers to make sure colony traditions were up to standard.
He was a great leader and role model to all who knew him. His biggest passion was to visit with his numerous friends, too many to mention. He always told us that “Honesty and Kindness” would take us a long way in life and to accept the Lord’s will.
Thank you to all the Doctors and Nurses who were involved in Martin’s care.
He is survived by his loving wife Margaret of 38 years; children: Linda, Philip (Dorothy), Albert (Rosanne), Dorothy, James (Annette) of Grandview and Ruth (Toby) of Torrington. He was blessed with 3 grandchildren: Anita, Naomi, and Jeffrey, who were a joy in his life. His mother W. Rebecca; brothers: Andy (Maggie), Jeremiah (Rachel); sisters: Susanna (Danny) of Torrington, Katie (Peter), Helen (Henry), Barbara (Lawrence) of Vegreville and Matilda (David) of Springvale. Also, mother in-law J. Margaret of Torrington and sister in-law J. Ruth of Sandhills; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Martin was predeceased by his daughter Roseanne, father William, brother Jacob of Grandview, father in-law Jacob Stahl of Torrington and brother in-law Jacob Wurz of Sandhills, Alberta.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2016, at 10:00am at Grandview Colony. Interment to follow at the Colony Cemetery.
