Obituary For Mary Hakes Kirkham
Mary Kirkham (nee Hakes), longtime resident of Sexsmith, AB, and for the past 3 years of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2020, at Prairie Lake Hospice, with her son Dan at her side, at the age of 92 years.
Mary was born on December 9, 1927, in Edson, AB.
Mary fought hard since her stroke in early October. She was a devoted wife, mom, Nana and great-grandma.
She lived nearly her entire life in Sexsmith on the farm with her “Bill”. She was a proud member of the community in many aspects: from being a founding member (1st Honoured Royal Lady) of the O.O.R.P. Lodge #266, to working alongside the crew at the Grande Prairie Auction Mart, and with Bob Scott doing farm auctions for many years.
Mary is survived by her children: Dan (Joan), Lynn Hyska and Kelvin; grandchildren: Billy (Crystal), Brian (Jaselyn) and Alexandra; great-grandchildren: Levi, Mackenzie, Lauren, and Reid; brothers: Pat (Adoline), Joe (Hedy) and Glenn;
She was predeceased by her husband Bill in 2014, her parents, and her siblings.
At Mary’s request, there will be no funeral. Cremation has taken place, and interment will be held at a later date at the Emerson Trail Cemetery with a Celebration of Life.
The family would like to thank the staff at Prairie Lake Hospice and the staff on 3 North at the QEII Hospital.
Memorial donations may be made to the Elks Lodge #284 Sexsmith - Fund For Children (Box 251, Sexsmith, AB, T0H 3C0) or to the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation (10409 98 St., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 2E8), or to a charity of one’s choice.
