Mary Petker, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of DeBolt, AB, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, at the age of 89 years.

Mary was born on October 24, 1933, to Peter and Margareta Warkentin, at home near LaGlace, AB. She was the eighth out of twelve children. She loved the farm life and quit school after grade 9 in order to help out on the farm.

On March 31, 1957, she married Cornelius Petker. This union was blessed with the birth of six children. They lived and farmed in Tofield, AB, for 15 years. Then they moved to DeBolt where they continued farming until retirement.

Mary was a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had endless energy and zest for living and pursued her passions of farming, hospitality, and practical ways of sharing the love of Christ. Mary always loved to sing and used her gifts to minister to others. After Cornelius passed in 2014, she moved to Emerald Gardens in Grande Prairie.

Mary will be sadly missed by her children: Dan (Diane), Rick (Providence), Grace (Brad) Schwindt, William (Ruth), and John (Marge); 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; as well as many extended family members and friends.

Mary was predeceased by her daughter Janice in 1972 and her husband Cornelius in 2014.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the wonderful care their mom received from the staff at Emerald Gardens and the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital.

A Viewing will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023, from 10:00-11:00am at the Gospel Light Church in DeBolt (Junction of Hwy 736 and Twp Rd 721A). Interment to follow at Cornwall Cemetery. Memorial Service to follow at Gospel Light Church at 2:00pm, with luncheon to follow.
