Obituary For Mary Lou Gunby Matlock

Mary Lou Matlock, resident of DeBolt, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2019 in Grande Prairie, at the age of 88 years.

Mary Lou was born in Innisfail, AB, on September 11, 1930. At the age of 3, she moved with her family to their homestead near DeBolt.

She married Harold Matlock in 1952, and they had three children: Clay, Lacey and Connie. Mary Lou and Harold built up the Cranberry Lake Ranch, where they raised black angus cattle. Mary Lou’s love of her animals was obvious to visitors as they saw horses, cattle, dogs, cats, and chickens while they drove in. She had beautiful gardens, flowers beds, apple trees, and berry bushes. Her biscuits, buns and bread were famous among neighbors, friends, and the local kids. Mary Lou loved spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids. She had 67 wonderful years of marriage to Harold.

She will be sadly missed by her husband Harold Matlock; children: Clay (Wendy) Matlock, Lacey (Bill) Jacobson, Connie (Emile Desnoyers) Matlock; grandchildren Cary (Roxanne) Jacobson, Christopher Jacobson, Julia Desnoyers, and Joel Desnoyers; and great-grandchildren Waylon Jacobson and Gemma Jacobson.

She was predeceased by her father Alva Gunby, mother Lila Gunby, brother Jerry Gunby, and brother Joe Gunby.

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at 2:00pm, at Gospel Light Church in DeBolt, AB.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cranberry Lake Rodeo Association (Box 500, DeBolt, AB, T0H 1B0).
