Obituary For Mary Louise Golden
It is with heavy hearts that we announce Mary Louise Golden, aged 95 has left this world to join her husband, Bill. Mary left many joyful memories with her two sons, Donald (Debbie) and Morris (Kay), 2 grandchildren DJ (Alena) Golden and Stacy (Jerry) Walker, and 6 great grandchildren; Donald, Maxwell, Wesley, Austin, Nicholis and McKenna.
All of Mary’s siblings predeceased her, as well as her husband Bill in 1982.
Mary and Bill moved from Glen Robinson, Ontario to Grande Prairie in 1966 and lived here working hard to create a life for themselves and their boys. Mary worked at Canfor for many years until her and Bill retired and moved to Penticton B.C. After Bill passed on in 1982, she remained in Penticton until 2000 when she returned to Grande Prairie to be closer to her family.
Mary adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed having them over to bake bread, tourtiere and to have sleep overs and then have pancakes in the morning.
Another passion of Mary’s was to serve others. She volunteered at the QE2 hospital, caring for others who needed some compassion and assistance for many years. She put her heart and soul into that.
Mary was also creative doing many crafts, particularly making quilts. Gardening was a love of hers as well, not just vegetables but flowers also. She was able to maintain her own home and yard work well into her eighties. Despite no longer having a car she insisted on cleaning her driveway with the slightest hint of snow. She moved from her home in the eighties to Emerald Gardens and eventually Prairie Lakes because of her diagnosis of Alzheimer’s where she remained for several years.
Mary thoroughly enjoyed travelling. Whether it was to Vancouver Island, Jasper, Las Vegas, the UK and France she was excited and took in all the sights and adventures, which also included beer and red wine. She was always quick to cheer. She loved to have fun and to laugh, and on occasion perhaps a little too hard. On one Christmas she went dog sledding which was a highlight for her.
The family would like to thank all staff at Prairie Lakes for their compassionate care during her illness and to Dr. Brad Martin and Dr. Leal for the care they provided.
Donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta the Q2 hospital in Mary’s memory if they are choosing.
Mary will be laid to rest at the Grande Prairie Cemetery on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 1 pm.
Friends of the family are welcome to attend. Refreshments and snacks will follow at Oliver’s Funeral Home at 2 pm.

Mary was a lovely lady, the world needs many more like her! She was extremely hardworking, funny and kind. She was so proud to manage her home on her own in Countryside South, and a treasure to be around at QE 2 as she volunteered many many hours. Cherish her memory! Phyllis Mc Guffin

My sincere condolences on your loss. We really appreciated Mary's energy, joy, and love that she brought to our residents in Mackenzie Place and in Acute Care all those years that she volunteered. I learned a lot from Mary over the years and am so grateful for her dedication to helping others. She loved a good laugh and loved to show off all of her new pin collections from the Arctic Winter Games and various other events, as she knew I also loved collecting pins. We shared many great hours together and I have missed her over the past years and am sorry I won't be able to attend her celebration of life. My sincere condolences to you all.
