Obituary For Mason Michael Lockrem

With deepest sorrow we announce the passing of Mason Michael Lockrem, age 20, our most beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, family member, and friend. Mason passed away suddenly on Friday, March 8, 2019, at home.

Mason was born October 1, 1998 in Grande Prairie, AB. He resided in La Glace, AB with his parents and brother where he attended kindergarten at La Glace School. He then lived in Grande Prairie where he continued school at Swanavon Elementary, Montrose Junior High, the Composite and Charles Spencer High Schools.

Mason was an independent thinker, an avid reader and writer, often recommending books to the rest of the family. He even wrote a book himself. He loved the outdoors and spent countless weekends hiking and exploring with his dad and brother Morgan. Mason loved football and was a natural leader both on and off the field. Beyond his leadership attributes, he exemplified integrity, kindness, and steadfastness.

Those who knew Mason have suffered a heartbreaking loss and will forever be missing a shining light in their lives.

Mason will be desperately missed by his father Michael Lockrem (Julie Clark), his mother Jennifer Schollaardt (JJ Sharko), brother Morgan Lockrem (Michaela Maclean), sisters Jillian and Jayden Clark, grandparents Herman and Teryl Schollaardt, grandfather David Lockrem, grandparents Maureen and Robert Gardner, auntie Charlotte Glenn (Kris Glenn), uncle Stephen Schollaardt (Jodi Schollaardt), and uncle Stuart Schollaardt (Hailee Schollaardt).

Mason played an indescribable role in the lives of his cousins, and will be missed beyond measure by Ava, Liam, Tristan, Henry, Saulomon, Ellis, Scottie, Claire, and Emry. He will also be dearly missed by his best friends, Jalen Sandboe, Ranslee MacLennan, and Kaitlyn Almeida.

He was predeceased by his grandmother Sheila Lockrem.

He left his pain, but he also left us all and we will never be the same. Despite his gift of bringing love and joy to so many people, inside he was battling a deep inexplicable pain. He is now finally at peace.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, March 15, 2019, at 2:00pm, at Christian Fellowship Assembly in Grande Prairie (11449 92 St.).

Donations in Mason’s memory may be made to Suicide Resource Prevention Centre (200, Nordic Court, 10014 99 St., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 3N4).

My deepest condolences to Morgan and all of Masonâ??s family. I remember Mason as a bright eyed grade 8 student in my math and science classes at Montrose: he was a thoughtful young man, well respected by both his peers and adults. The â??Three Musketeersâ?? (Mason, Jalen and Ranslee - as I still think of them these many years later) were always a group that I looked forward to seeing in my day.
