Obituary For Mathew Wozniak

Mathew Wozniak, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Codesa, AB, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2020, at the QEII Hospital, at the age of 94 years.

Mathew was born in Stojanow, Poland, on January 19, 1926. He arrived in Canada in 1932, did his schooling up until grade 8 in Codesa, married Barbara Klukas in 1949, and farmed all his life until 1998 when he retired.

Matt worked hard all his life. He volunteered for many organizations and was a major founder of the Eaglesham Golf Course.

Prior to his retirement, he loved playing cards and spending his time at Elks, as well as curling and golfing. His hobbies after his retirement included gardening, cards, volunteering at the archives, and starting 150 petunias every spring.

He will be sadly missed by his children: Pat Wozniak (Hilda Winia), and Jean (Andre) Legault; grandchildren: Sheldon Wozniak, Shawna (Jon) Foster, Jacy (Lee) Legault, and Raimie (Sharilyn) Legault; great-grandchildren: Casper, Dara and Gareth Legault, Jaxon and Kohlby Foster, and Cindel-Rae Legault; as well as 3 brothers: Bill, Roman, and Edward.

Matt was predeceased by his wife Barbara Elizabeth Wozniak; daughter Evelda Irene; brother Merlin; and sister Cecile.

A family luncheon will take place on Saturday, October 17, at 1:00pm at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.), masks will be provided.

Interment will take place following the service at the Garden of Memories Columbarium at the Grande Prairie City Cemetery (84 Ave and 112 St.).
